Yellow Transportation 300 - Tony Stewart Notes

Tony Stewart
No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Team Report
NASCAR Busch Series Race 30 of 35 – Kansas Speedway

ROADLOANS.COM 200 RECAP: Tony Raines piloted the No. 33 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet at Dover (Del.) International Speedway for the RoadLoans.com 200 Saturday. Starting the race in the 18th position, Raines was poised for a great finish at “The Monster Mile” as he quickly began moving through the field. Unfortunately, an accident on lap 57 ended Raines day early, and forced the No. 33 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet to finish the race with a 35th-place finish.

ALL ABOUT THE NUMBERS: Tony Stewart will be making his eighth start of the season for Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) when he jumps behind the wheel of the No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet Saturday at Kansas Speedway. In seven previous starts for KHI this season, Stewart has compiled three top-five and six top-10 finishes.

THIS RACE ONE YEAR AGO: Stewart piloted the No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet to a fourth-place finish last year at Kansas Speedway. After starting the race in the 28th position, Stewart was able to pick his way through the field before finishing the day with a solid top-five performance.

CHASSIS HISTORY: Chassis No. 36 previously ran at California Speedway with Kevin Harvick behind the wheel and at Michigan International Speedway with Stewart in the driver’s seat.

BACK ON TRACK: Stewart will be wearing a very unique firesuit for the Yellow Transportation 300 at Kansas Speedway. Earlier this year while piloting the No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet at Chicagoland Speedway, Stewart wore a firesuit adorned with advertisements in the armpits promoting the Old Spice NASCAR Collector Series. For only the second time this season, Stewart will again wear this unique Old Spice firesuit.

DOUBLE DUTY: Stewart will be competing in both the NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) race on Saturday and the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series (NNCS) race on Sunday. Saturday will mark Stewart’s eighth start of the season for KHI and Old Spice. On Sunday, Stewart will be battling in round three of the Chase for the Nextel Cup where he currently sits in the second spot only two points out of first.

Tony Stewart Quotes:
Track position and pit strategy seem to be the two biggest variables at Kansas. When and how do you make the decision to sacrifice tires for track position, or depending on the circumstances, track position for tires? “I think it just depends on how your car is working. If your car is driving well, one that keeps you up toward the front all day because it’s fast, then just two tires can keep you pretty quick. In that situation, you could make a big gain at the end by just taking on two tires and maintaining your track position. Even some guys who are behind and don’t have their car the way they want, by taking on two tires, the track position they gain helps out more than four tires would. But when you get right down to it, I think Kansas is a track where if your car’s good, then it doesn’t matter whether you take two tires or four.”

Why is it that races at D-shaped ovals seem to be won in fairly dominating fashion? “If a guy gets going and gets his car balanced, then he’ll tend to run away. That’s just the characteristic of that kind of track. It’s fast, it’s flat and momentum is so important there, that if a guy is off just a little, he’s off a lot. The drivers like it from the standpoint that if you can find a way to get around it a little better, then it’ll help them in the long run. You end up racing the race track instead of each other.”

Dan Stillman Quotes:
Returning to Kansas with Tony Stewart: “We should have a great race this weekend at Kansas (Speedway). We have Tony (Stewart) back in the car and this is a track where he has proven success.

“The chassis we are taking last ran at California (Speedway) with Kevin (Harvick) in the car and was able to finish in the seventh position. We had some problems early on in the race, but we worked on the car all day making adjustments and finished in the top-10. Hopefully, we can pick up where we left off at California and put Tony (Stewart) in Victory Lane.”
