Yellow Transportation 300 - Jeff Burton Notes
Jeff Burton
No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet
Event/Date: Yellow Transportation 300 – September 29, 2007
Venue: Kansas Speedway – Kansas City, Kan.
NOTES:
This Week’s Holiday Inn Chevrolet at Kansas Speedway … Jeff Burton will pilot Chassis No. 073 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable in this weekend’s Yellow Transportation 300. Built new in 2007, this is the same Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS that Burton drove to Victory Lane at California Speedway earlier this month.
Bump in the Road … Last weekend’s 29th-place finish at Dover dropped the team to second in the NASCAR Busch Series owners’ championship point standings. The team now sits 39 markers behind Roush-Fenway Racing’s No. 60 machine.
Stat Facts … In three NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) starts at Kansas Speedway, Burton has posted one win, one top-five and one top-10 finish and led 52 laps.
RCR at Kansas … In 15 NBS starts at the 1.5-mile D-shaped oval, RCR has earned one win (Kevin Harvick, September 2006), five top-five and six top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 69 laps in the Sunflower State.
Pretty Strong for a Part-Timer … Despite competing in just 15 of the 29 NBS events to date in 2007, Burton sits 19th in the drivers’ point standings. All but two of the races have resulted in top 10s, including three wins (Las Vegas, Atlanta and California) and 10 top-five finishes.
RCR Busch Brigade … In 29 Busch Series races this season, RCR has claimed 10 victories with the most recent coming at California Speedway with Burton. Clint Bowyer has two wins, Burton has three and Harvick leads the way with five. Additionally, the three RCR Busch teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 34 top-five and 49 top-10 finishes while leading 1,198 laps.
Lap Count … Burton has led in 10 of the 15 races he has competed in during the 2007 NBS season for a total of 438 laps. The South Boston, Va., native has completed 2,490 of the 2,624 laps contested (94.9 percent) and has been running at the end of each race.
Double Duty at Kansas … In addition to his driving duties with the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet, Burton, a 19-time race winner in the NASCAR Cup Series, will drive RCR’s No. 31 AT&T Chevrolet in the September 30 LifeLock 400. The race will air live on ABC beginning at 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and can also be heard on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Catch the Action … The Yellow Transportation 300 at Kansas Speedway will be televised live on ESPN2 on Saturday, September 29 beginning at 3 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 30th of 35 races on the 2007 Busch Series calendar will air live on SPEED the same day beginning at 11 a.m. EDT.
JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
What has made the Holiday Inn Chevrolet so strong this year?
“We have had great equipment and I have been fortunate enough to win three races this year in the Holiday Inn Chevy. Scott (Wimmer) has done really well in the car as well. He hasn’t gotten his win but if we keep running the way that we are, then he will. We feel really good about our Busch program. We brought a brand new car to California and won there. It was just incredible and unloaded fast. We are taking that same car to Kansas. It is the latest and greatest of our stuff and it is the best that we know how to do.”
You are running for the NASCAR Busch Series owners’ championship. How has that battle been with the No. 60 machine?
“We are having fun. All the pressure is on the No. 60 car. It would be much more disappointing for them to win the driver’s championship and lose the owners’ championship. And it is our job to make that disappointment. For them to honestly say that they are the best team in the Busch Series, they have to win both of those championships. The best teams in the garage, with the exception of the No. 60, aren’t running a full season. For them to claim victory, then, they need to win both. It is the same for the Holiday Inn Chevy. For us to claim that we were the best, we have to win the owners’ championship.”
