Scott Wimmer
No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet
Event/Date: NASCAR Busch Series 250 – July 21, 2007
Venue: Gateway International Raceway, Madison, Ill.
NOTES:
This Week’s Race Car at Gateway International Raceway … Scott Wimmer will pilot Chassis No. 070 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new in 2007, this is the same Holiday Inn Chevrolet Jeff Burton drove to a third-place finish at Phoenix International Raceway in April. Burton also raced this No. 29 Chevy to a third-place finish at Richmond International Raceway in May. Wimmer drove this chassis to a second-place finish four weeks ago at The Milwaukee Mile.
Gaining Ground … Burton’s third-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway advanced the Holiday Inn Racing team 62 points in the NASCAR Busch Series owners’ championship point standings. The team is now just 206 markers behind Jack Roush’s No. 60 machine.
Pretty Strong for a Part-Timer … Despite competing in 13 of the 20 Busch Series events this season, Wimmer sits 20th in the drivers’ points. Eight of his 13 races have resulted in top-10 finishes, including three top-five finishes.
Stat Facts … In four NBS starts at Gateway, Wimmer has earned three top-10 finishes. The Wausau, Wis., native has a 19.5 starting average and an 11.3 finishing average. He has led five laps and has collected over $120,000 in prize money.
RCR Busch Cars at Gateway … RCR has won two Busch Series races at Gateway International Raceway – both with Kevin Harvick (2000 and 2001). In 14 NBS starts at the 1.25-mile egg-shaped oval, RCR has earned five top-five and eight top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 305 laps outside the Gateway City.
Leading the Way in Owner Wins … Richard Childress Racing leads the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series in owner wins with seven.
RCR Busch Brigade … In 20 Busch Series races this season, RCR has claimed seven victories - the most recent coming last weekend at Chicagoland Speedway with Kevin Harvick (Burton – 2, Clint Bowyer- 2 and Harvick –3). Additionally, the three RCR Busch teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 25 top-five and 35 top-10 finishes while leading for a total of 1,002 laps.
Design the Holiday Inn Chevy … Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts, the world's most recognized hotel brand, will rev-up race fans' creativity with the launch of its second annual online "Design a Car" contest. Through July 31 consumers can log on to http://www.holidayinn.com/designacar to design a new paint scheme for Richard Childress Racing's No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and submit their design for online voting by visitors to the site. Jeff Burton will then select the winning paint scheme from among the fans' favorites. The winning design will be featured on Burton's car during the NASCAR Busch Series finale in Homestead, Fla., on November 17. Winners of this year's "Design a Car" contest will also receive a trip for two to Homestead with V.I.P. treatment that includes a meeting with Burton.
Up to Speed … The NASCAR Busch Series 250 will be televised live on ESPN2 Saturday, July 21 beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 21st race on the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series schedule will be televised live on ESPN2 the same day beginning at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES:
What are some of the challenges getting around Gateway?
“Gateway is one of the most unique tracks that we go to. Turns one and two are quite a bit different from three and four. It’s a big challenge for both the driver and the crew chief because you have to set up the car somewhere in between. You can never get the car perfect in all four turns. You try to get the car as comfortable and as fast as you can but you are always going to give up something in one of the turns. The track has real long straightaways and tight corners. It is a unique track and it makes for good racing.”
Do you prefer the NASCAR Busch Series stand-alone events when most of the Cup drivers tend to stay away?
“I love to race any weekend and it doesn’t really bother me how many Cup drivers are in the field. I like the aspect that the Busch drivers get a lot more attention at the stand-alones. The media tends to focus on the Cup guys when it is a companion event and the full-time Busch drivers tend to take a back seat. The only real difference that I see is a shift in media attention. This should be a great weekend for the Holiday Inn Racing team to go out and have a strong weekend.”
