Diamond Hill Plywood 200 - Clint Bowyer Notes
Clint Bowyer
No. 2 BB&T Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet
Event/Date: Diamond Hill Plywood 200 – May 11, 2007
Venue: Darlington Raceway – Darlington, S.C.
NOTES:
This Week’s BB&T Chevrolet at Darlington Raceway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 019 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. This is the same car that Bowyer drove to a fifth-place finish earlier this season at Bristol. The Emporia, Kan., native also drove this car to the Winner’s Circle last fall at Dover. Prior to that, it saw action last season in both races at Bristol (Spring – started fourth, finished 12th, Fall – started third, finished 23rd) at Darlington in May (started 11th, finished 17th) and in June at Dover (started third, finished fourth) as well.
Last Week’s Winner … Bowyer is the most recent winner on the 35-race NASCAR Busch Series tour after grabbing the checkered flag in last week’s Circuit City 250 at Richmond International Raceway. The win was Bowyer’s second victory in the last three races and fifth career on NASCAR’s junior circuit. The victory was also the first for BB&T – sponsor of Bowyer’s No. 2 Chevy.
RCR Busch Cars in Darlington … In 24 previous NBS starts at Darlington Raceway, RCR has earned one pole (Kevin Harvick 2003), five top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 204 laps.
Owner Victories … With Bowyer’s win last weekend at Richmond, RCR has collected a total of 43 wins in the NASCAR Busch Series. The win eclipsed Dale Earnhardt Inc.’s previous mark of 42 checkered flags advancing the Welcome, N.C.-based organization to second on the all-time car owner career wins list. RCR Busch cars have won a total of five races this season (Harvick – Daytona, Burton – Las Vegas and Atlanta, Bowyer – Phoenix and Richmond)
CB at the SPEED Stage … Bowyer will be a featured guest on this week’s installment of Trackside Live. Trackside Live will shoot this week’s show from the SPEED Stage Friday, May 11 from 1– 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The SPEED Stage will be located outside the turn one tunnel near the front straightaway.
Double Down in Darlington Town … Following his duties behind the wheel of the No. 2 BB&T Chevy, Bowyer will turn his attention to the No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet Impala SS for Saturday’s Dodge Avenger 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. Live coverage of the 11th stop on the 2007 NEXTEL Cup tour will take the green flag Saturday, May 12th beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will be televised live on FOX and broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 11th of 36 points-paying races on the 2007 schedule will be televised live on SPEED Friday, May 11 at 3 p.m. EDT.
Catch the Action … The Diamond Hill Plywood 200 from Darlington Raceway will take the green flag Friday, May 11 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will be televised live on ESPN2 and broadcast on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 12th race on the 2007 Busch Series slate is scheduled to be televised live on SPEED the same day at 5 p.m. EDT.
CLINT BOWYER QUOTES
You’ve had decent finishes with your Busch car at Darlington but it seems like your still trying to get over the hump.
“We’ve had some good runs there but it seems like, for one reason or another, we always seem to have a little bit of a bobble. I have the same crew on both the BB&T Chevrolet and the Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet on the NEXTEL Cup side so there are no more excuses in the pits or on the racetrack. My guys have been on top of their game with both cars. I don’t think we’ll have those mistakes where we beat ourselves any more.”
Do you see any issues going from the Busch car to the “Car of Tomorrow” this weekend?
“At Bristol, I didn’t want to get out of the Busch car. It felt like a Cadillac. It’s just really hard to race side-by-side with someone in the new car. I’m still trying to get comfortable with it. The Busch cars put on such a good show for the fans and they are a ball to drive. You can drive the Busch car with so much confidence because you know it’s going to stick. We’re still learning about the Car of Tomorrow but we’ll figure it out.”
