Winn-Dixie 250 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes

Where the Raybestos Rookies finished at Daytona:
Krisiloff 20th
Robert Richardson Jr. 28th
Montoya 30th
Ragan 34th
Ambrose 35th

KYLE KRISILOFF IN THE No. 14 LILLY/WALGREENS FORD WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TODAY’S RACE AT DAYTONA.

Note:

  • Krisiloff UNOFFICIALLY finished 20th and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the first time this season.

TRAVIS CARTER, GENERAL MANAGER, No. 14 LILLY/WALGREENS FORD: “Well it was a good day. For the most part, for Daytona, I think it was an uneventful race. We never could get good track position today and that seemed to be paramount here today. And of course, the typical Daytona, it slides around a little bit but I think the cars handled reasonably well for most of the guys. It made everybody pretty equal so getting in the right position at the right time was critical. Again, track position, we just never could get it. I think we did about as well as we could expect finishing 20th.” YOU FINISHED AND HAVE THE CAR IN ONE PIECE. “That’s big as you move forward to next year. That gives you one good race car to start the year with and that’s all important and also we gained him some points and certainly we need to be able to do that every week.”

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: YOU HAD THE LEADERS IN SIGHT ALL MORNING AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED OFF TURN 4? “Tony just got really loose and it screwed us. I don’t think he did it on purpose. I think he just run up on the racetrack and checked up and when I checked up I lost the car. We had a fast car. I had a top-five car. That’s how races go, some go your way and some don’t.” WERE YOU JUST TRYING TO GET IN POSITION THERE IN THE CLOSING LAPS? WERE YOU TRYING TO FIND THE BEST LINE? “Yeah, but only finding the line just work with people around and see where you can be.”

MARCOS AMBROSE, No. 59 KINGSFORD/WINN-DIXIE FORD: YOU WERE IN A POSITION TO HAVE A GOOD FINISH TODAY AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED? “I don’t know. I guess I spooked myself into thinking that I had a flat tire. I went to warm the tires up and get them cleaned up on the backstretch there for the last restart. It just didn’t feel right. I asked Tad [Geschickter, car owner and spotter] to call the guy behind me to see if it was down and he said ‘Yeah I think it’s down’ and turned out it was up. We stopped just to be safe and just wrecked a great day. I feel terrible for the team, terrible to let ‘em down like that. I just thought the tire was down and it wasn’t. It was a bad day for us in the end. But up to that point we were having a perfect day, just exactly what we’re looking for. We were coming to the front, ready to rock and roll.” WHATEVER YOU WERE DOING IN THE RACE WAS WORKING BECAUSE YOU WERE IN POSITION TO SCORE A TOP-10. “We were right there and we were coming. I was going to have a crack at it in those last 20-odd laps. We were coming through and we probably would have had a really good day.”

DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD: “We had a top-10 car the last half of the race. The first half of the race we weren’t handling good enough to make the passes and go. McMurray made it three-wide on the last lap everybody is trying for their spots. Everybody is trying to get that last position and whoever was on the outside, I think it was Vickers, touched the wall a little bit. We were tight already and then Vickers came down and we just kind of body slammed each other. We were still good. Jamie was on the bottom and I’m sure we just came right across his nose and he couldn’t let up. He was trying to get as many spots as he could there at the end. It’s one of those deals. If I knew that was going to happen I could have fell in line behind McMurray or protected the bottom a little better. Or if I knew Vickers was going to touch the wall there on the last lap I might could have gave him more room. Everybody is racing hard there at the end. I just wish we could have got the finish that we deserved.”
