Winn-Dixie 250 - Clint Bowyer Notes
Clint Bowyer
No. 2 BB&T Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Event Preview Fact Sheet
Event/Date: Winn Dixie 250 – July 6, 2007
Venue: Daytona International Speedway – Daytona Beach, Fla.
NOTES:
This Week’s BB&T Chevrolet at Daytona International Speedway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 031 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) stable in this weekend’s Winn Dixie 250. This is the same car Bowyer raced to a fourth-place finish in the 2007 season-opener at Daytona and to a 13th-place finish in April at Talladega. Additionally, he raced this car to third-and sixth-place finishes, respectively, last season at Daytona. The Emporia, Kan., native also finished fifth with the same No. 2 Chevy last April at Talladega. This car also saw action at all three restrictor-plate races in 2005.
Back on Board with BB&T … After showcasing a Camping World paint scheme last weekend at New Hampshire, Bowyer’s No. 2 Chevy will return to its traditional burgundy and gold BB&T colors this weekend for the Winn Dixie 250.
Not Too Shabby for a Part-Timer … In 11 NASCAR Busch Series starts this season, Bowyer has amassed two wins, seven top-five and nine top-10 finishes. Despite having competed in just over half of the races in NASCAR’s junior division, the Emporia, Kan., driver has led 276 laps and is 15th in driver points.
Facts are Facts … In five NBS starts at Daytona, Bowyer has three top-five and four top-10 finishes. The 28-year-old driver has an impressive 9.4 starting average but an even more impressive sixth-place finishing average. He hasn’t finished worse than 12th at the 2.5-mile high-banked Daytona Beach oval and has completed all 567 laps of competition.
RCR Busch Cars at DIS … RCR has won two Busch Series races at Daytona International Speedway – one with Dale Earnhardt Jr. (2002) and most recently with Kevin Harvick at the Orbitz 300 in February. In 26 NBS starts at the 2.5 mile tri-oval, RCR has earned one pole (Harvick 2005), 16 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 240 laps at the “World Center of Racing.”
RCR Busch Brigade … In 18 Busch Series races this season, RCR has claimed six victories (Jeff Burton – 2, Clint Bowyer- 2 and Kevin Harvick –2). Additionally, all three RCR Busch teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 20 top-five and 30 top-10 finishes while leading for a total of 891 laps.
Double Down in Daytona … Following his duties behind the wheel of the BB&T Chevy, Bowyer will turn his attention to the No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet for Saturday’s Pepsi 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. Live coverage of the 18th stop on the 2007 NEXTEL Cup tour will take the green flag Saturday, July 7 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will be televised live on TNT and broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying will be televised live on SPEED Friday, July 6 at 4 p.m. EDT.
Catch the Action … The Winn Dixie 250 from Daytona International Speedway will be televised live on ESPN2 Friday, July 6 beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT and broadcast on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 19th race on the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series schedule will be televised live on SPEED the same day beginning at 1 p.m. EDT.
CLINT BOWYER QUOTES:
The aero package on the Busch cars is quite a bit different than what the Cup cars run. Do you enjoy running the Busch car at Daytona more than the Cup car or less?
“I enjoy running the Busch car but it seems like the last couple of times we’ve been there that you almost need a downforce body on these cars. The field really seems to have been pretty well strung out the last couple of times. Heck, I think Junior (Dale Earnhardt Jr.) had almost a straightaway lead on the field and that’s just unheard of at Daytona. As the track is wearing out, Goodyear keeps bringing a harder tire and that’s been a battle with the Busch cars. I think it has taken away from the racing a little bit.”
