Camping World 300 - Jeff Burton Notes
Jeff Burton
No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet
Event/Date: Camping World 300 – September 1, 2007
Venue: California Speedway – Fontana, Calif.
NOTES:
This Week’s Race Car at California Speedway … Jeff Burton will pilot Chassis No. 073 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable in this weekend’s Camping World 300. This is a brand new Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.
Bump in the Road … Last weekend’s 40th-place finish at Bristol was only Burton’s second finish outside the top 10 in 14 races behind the wheel of the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet this season and the team dropped to second in the NASCAR Busch Series owners’ championship point standings. The team now sits 42 markers behind Roush-Fenway Racing’s No. 60 machine.
Stat Facts … In seven NASCAR Busch Series starts at California Speedway, Burton has posted three top-five and four top-10 finishes and led 113 laps.
RCR at California … In 24 NBS starts at the two-mile D-shaped oval, RCR has earned three poles (Kevin Harvick, April 2003; Clint Bowyer, September 2005 and 2006), 10 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 194 laps outside the City of Angels.
Pretty Strong for a Part-Timer … Despite competing in just 14 of the 26 NBS events to date in 2007, Burton sits 19th in the drivers’ point standings. All but two of the races have resulted in top 10s, including two wins (Las Vegas and Atlanta) and nine top-five finishes.
RCR Busch Brigade … In 24 Busch Series races this season, RCR has claimed nine victories with the most recent coming at Watkins Glen with Harvick. Burton and Clint Bowyer have two wins each and Harvick leads the way with five wins. Additionally, the three RCR Busch teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 32 top-five and 46 top-10 finishes while leading 1,146 laps.
Double Duty at California … In addition to his driving duties with the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet, Burton, a 19-time race winner in the NASCAR Cup Series, will drive RCR’s No. 31 AT&TChevrolet in the September 2 Sharp AQUOS 500. The race will air live on ESPN beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and can also be heard on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Under the Lights … The Camping World 300 at California Speedway will be televised live on ESPN2 on Saturday, September 1 beginning at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will also be broadcast live on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 27th of 35 races on the 2007 Busch Series calendar will air on tapped delay on SPEED Friday, August 31, beginning at 11 p.m. EDT.
JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
What is the key to a strong finish at California Speedway?
“Really, it’s kind of the same at every race track we go to. First and foremost, you have to have a fast car. Then, you can’t make mistakes out on the race track or in the pits. NASCAR racing is so competitive that there can not be mistakes made anywhere in order to have a good finish because the competition is just so strong.”
What are your expectations going into California?
“I have high expectations for the Busch race this weekend. The RCR Busch program is one of the best in the series. The Holiday Inn Chevrolet was smoking fast last weekend but we got into the No. 0 and didn’t have the results we wanted. We are going to go out and try to take back the lead in the owners’ point standings.”
