Marcos Ambrose was the top Raybestos Rookie in the final practice this afternoon at Chicagoland Speedway. Ambrose posted the eighth-best overall speed in the session.
MARCOS AMBROSE, No. 59 KINGSFORD/BUSH’S FORD: “I’m really encouraged. We were hoping and praying that we were going to come here and run decent. We think our 1.5-mile program is the best we have right now. We’ve had a couple tough weeks and we’re looking to bounce back from that. If practice is any indication we’re climbing on it. We had a really good session, just working through some of the stuff on the car. It’s a unique one-and-a-half mile track because it’s not straight. It’s all bends the whole way round. As a team I think we gelled well and made a lot of this session, especially the second practice, we made a lot of that and I’m really pleased.” WILL THE TRACK CHANGE A LOT FROM THIS PRACTICE TO QUALIFYING AND THE RACE TOMORROW? “I think so but, I mean, I don’t know. This is my first time here so I’m just going to drive every lap like I stole the car and do the best I can with it. I don’t carry any preconceived ideas going to races and qualifying. I just put the helmet on and go. The more I think about it the slower I go. I’ve learned by my mistakes. You can’t think about what you’re doing. If you did you probably wouldn’t do it.” DID YOU TAKE THIS CAR TO THE WIND TUNNEL? “I don’t think so, no. We’re working as a group to just get our cars consistent, the same every week, week in and week out. We’re not to the point where we can really make the most of wind tunnel work this year. We’re not far away from that but we’re really just trying to make everything the same week to week. And that way we know what we’ve got.”
