USG Durock 300 - Tony Stewart Notes

Tony Stewart
No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Team Report
NASCAR Busch Series Race 20 of 35 — Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway

WINN-DIXIE 250 RECAP: After a rain-delayed Winn-Dixie 250 finally got underway early Saturday morning at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Tony Raines and the No. 33 RoadLoans.com racing team took their 26th-starting position and turned it into a top-20 run in less than 15 laps of green-flag racing. The RoadLoans.com team overcame two unfortunate mishaps on pit road, as Raines missed his pit stall, loosing positions both times. Throughout the entire race, Raines looked for a comfortable line in the draft, while working hard to fight a tight-handling race car. Raines, who fell back as far as 36th, battled back crossing the start/finish line in the 21st position. With this run by Raines, the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolet maintains the fifth position in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Owner’s Point Standings. The team is currently 162 points behind fourth-place car owner Richard Childress and the No. 21 Chevrolet.

MR. CONSISTENCY IN ‘07: Stewart has compiled eight starts in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series season. In those eight starts, he has grabbed seven top-10 finishes, with his worst finish of the year coming at the California Speedway, where he finished 11th in a Joe Gibbs racing machine.

LOOKING FOR NINE STRAIGHT: Tony Stewart will be looking for nine straight top-10 finishes for Kevin Harvick Inc., dating back to the Michigan International Speedway in 2006. Stewart’s last race for KHI came two weeks ago at New Hampshire International Speedway where Stewart finished fourth.

SECOND TIME AROUND: The Durock 300 will be the second NASCAR Busch Series race that Stewart has entered at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway. The Rushville, Ind. native made his only other start there last year, where Stewart started 17th and finished ninth.

RUNNING IT: The No. 33 Old Spice team will unload chassis No. 028 this weekend at the Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway. This will mark the third race with chassis No. 028 for the No. 33 team in 2007. Tony Stewart drove it to a third-place finish at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, while Kevin Harvick piloted the car to an 11th-place finish at the Texas Motor Speedway.

73 AND COUNTING: Tony Stewart has 73 career NASCAR Busch Series starts. In those 73 starts, Stewart has two wins (Daytona ’05, ’06), four poles, 19 top-five and 25 top-10 finishes. Stewart’s two Busch Series wins both came driving Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolets.

LOGGING MILES: Tony Stewart will drive 700 miles this weekend at the Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway. Stewart will participate in the Durock 300 (NBS) on Saturday and the USG Sheetrock 400 (NNCS) on Sunday. This means that Stewart would have driven from Charlotte, North Carolina to New York City, New York, for example.

CHICAGOLAND SUCCESS: Tony Stewart has seven career starts in both the NASCAR Busch and Cup Series at Chicagoland (Ill.). Of those seven starts, he has compiled five top-10 finishes including one win (2004, NNCS) and one pole (2003, NNCS).

STEWART PULLING DOUBLE-DUTY: Tony Stewart will pull double-duty this weekend at the Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway for the ninth time this season. Stewart will compete in the Durock 300 Busch Series event on Saturday with Kevin Harvick Inc. and the USG Sheetrock 400 Cup Series race on Sunday with Joe Gibbs Racing.

OPERATION WAX SMOKE: KHI Busch Series driver Tony Stewart said on his SIRIUS radio show that if someone would make a $100,000 donation to the Victory Junction Gang Camp (VJGC), he would wax his chest and back. “I thought it was a hilarious way to raise money for an excellent cause. I am calling on my fans (and Tony's too!) to make a donation in an effort to raise $100,000 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp,” said Kevin Harvick. “Plus, it’s a way to have a good laugh at Tony's expense.” For more information please visit our website, www.kevinharvick.com, to find out how you can be a part of "Operation: Wax Smoke!”

Dan Stillman Quotes:
On Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway: "Chicago is a really cool race track. We had a really good run there last year. KHI has had some good runs on the track and hopefully Tony Stewart can put us into victory lane on Saturday. The track has many racing grooves and is pretty slick, which makes for some good racing.”

On Chassis No. 028: “This chassis has been outstanding for us this year. We ran it in Las Vegas (Nev.) and Texas, where Tony (Stewart) and Kevin (Harvick) had good results. Hopefully we can go to Chicago (Ill.) this weekend and have another strong run.”

Tony Stewart Quotes:
Track position and pit strategy seem to be the two biggest variables at Chicagoland. When and how do you make the decision to sacrifice tires for track position, or depending on the circumstances, track position for tires?: “I think it just depends on how your car is working. If your car is driving well, one that keeps you up toward the front all day because it’s fast, then just two tires can keep you pretty quick. In that situation, you could make a big gain at the end by just taking on two tires and maintaining your track position. Even some guys who are behind and don’t have their car the way they want, by taking on two tires, the track position they gain helps out more than four tires would. But when you get right down to it, I think Chicago is a track where if your car’s good, then it doesn’t matter whether you take two tires or four.”
