NAPA Auto Parts 200 - Ron Fellows Notes

Ron Fellows
No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Team Report
NASCAR Busch Series Race 23 of 35 – Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

KROGER 200 RACE RECAP: Mobile, Alabama native, Cale Gale showed the 40,000 plus race fans at the O’Reilly Raceway Park that he has what it takes to compete in the NASCAR Busch Series. Gale, who battled inside the top-10 most of the night, held on to record a 14th-place finish in the Kroger 200. With this run by Gale, the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolet maintains the fifth position in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Owner’s Point Standings. The team is currently 261 points behind fourth-place car owner Richard Childress and the No. 21 Chevrolet.

FELLOWS RETURNS HOME: Windsor, Ontario native and road-course specialist, Ron Fellows jumps back behind the wheel for Kevin Harvick Inc. this weekend in the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet. The former NASCAR Busch and Truck Series winner hopes to add another win to his resume in front of the hometown crowd. “I have been looking forward to this race since it was announced,” Fellows said. “Hopefully we can have a good run and have the opportunity to win in front of the great race fans in Canada.”

FORMER CIRCUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE WINNER: Ron Fellows has visited victory lane at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve a few times in his racing career. However, Fellows, who visited victory lane in 1988 and 1989, knows that was a long time ago. “I raced in a nationally organized showroom-stock series back in the late 1980’s called the Player’s GM Series,” said Fellows. “It featured the production Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird models. The Series began in 1986 and I won races at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 1988 and 1989 and the Driver’s Championship in that Series in 1989 before moving on to sports car racing in the US. It has been a long time since I raced (there), but hopefully I will remember everything when I get back out there.”

TESTING 1..2..3: Ron Fellows had the opportunity to test with KHI at the Iowa Speedway road course a few weeks ago. “Ron Hornaday and I tested on the infield road course at Iowa Speedway in preparation for the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve race,” Fellows said. “We lost a half day with rain, but learned a few things that should apply to that track surface.” Fellows, who has raced at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve looks forward to this weekend. “I haven't raced there since the late 1980's in the GM Series, but it should be some good fun.”

RUNNING IT: The No. 33 Camping World team will unload chassis No. 032 this weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. This will mark the second race with chassis No. 032 for the No. 33 team in 2007. Ron Fellows drove this chassis to a 32nd-place finish in Mexico after engine problems arose halfway through the race.

DID YOU KNOW:

  • Ron’s first professional racing debut was in the Player’s/GM Challenge. He competed from 1986 to 1989, where he won the Driver’s Championship in 1989.
  • Two NASCAR Truck Series wins (Watkins Glen 1997, 1999)
  • Three NASCAR Busch Series wins (Watkins Glen 1998, 2000, 2001)

CHEVROLET HONORS FELLOWS: Corvette enthusiasts in search of a unique ride have much to consider this year with the introduction of the Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06. The special-edition Corvettes are distinguished by exclusive interior and exterior arrangements and will be offered in limited, predetermined quantities. In other words, when they're gone, they're gone. Marking his championship tenure with Corvette Racing's GT1-class domination in the ALMS, Corvette racing legend Ron Fellows is celebrated with a specially prepared 2007 Corvette Z06 production model. All are distinguished by Arctic White paint (including the door handles) that is accented with a racing-style fender stripe and Ron Fellows' autograph. This special Corvette Z06 is the first signed special edition in Corvette's 54-year history, and is the first Arctic White Z06 ever offered. Only 399 are planned for production; approximately 300 for the United States, 33 for Canada and 66 for other export markets. The Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06 will be available this spring. It carries an MSRP of $77,500, including destination. OnStar and a navigation system are the only options; and when equipped with them, the price is $79,945.

    RON FELLOWS QUOTES:
HOW EXICTED ARE YOU ABOUT THE NASCAR BUSCH SERIES MAKING ITS DEBUT IN CANADA: It is entirely appropriate that NASCAR’s first race be held on a race track, named after Canada’s most famous and likely most gifted racing driver this country has ever produced. When I raced in the Player’s GM Series in the late 1980’s at the Canadian Grand Prix, this was the race that everyone wanted to win. There is always a huge crowd at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Having watched and idolized Gilles there was always a little extra adrenalin flowing when driving on that circuit.

HAVING RACED AT THE FAMED CIRCUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE, WHAT KIND OF ADVANTAGE DO YOU HAVE ON THE FIELD: We had some success in the old GM Series Camaro winning on the GP circuit in 1988 and 1989, but I doubt that I will have much of an advantage. I hope so, but it will likely only be for the first couple of laps. I haven’t raced there since 1989 and back then the track was slightly different. We will prepare like we would normally do when going to a track that we have not been to before.

YOU ARE IN THE NO. 33 FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. WHAT KIND OF GOALS HAVE YOU SET FOR YOURSELF AT BOTH CIRCUIT GILLES VILLENEUVE AND WATKINS GLEN: This is my second season with Kevin Harvick Inc., and I feel like we have made progress with being able to communicate with the team and vice versa. I have done three road races with the team so far and we have not had the best of luck. My goals are to work hard with the team and to help get us in a position to be very competitive and have a shot at winning both Montreal and Watkins Glen Busch races.

ON THE RON FELLOWS ALMS GT1 CHAMPION CORVETTE Z06: Having a limited edition Corvette Z06 with my name on it is a huge honor and a great privilege. It's really a reflection of the success that we have had as a team. I've been very fortunate to be with Corvette Racing since its inception in 1997, and we have all enjoyed tremendous success showcasing the Corvette C5 and now the C6 models. I hope Kevin will buy one!
