WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE SHARPIE MINI 300 NASCAR BUSCH SERIES RACE AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY, MARCH 24, 2007.
Steve Wallace led once for 32 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in today’s Sharpie Mini 300. Wallace led a Busch Series race for the first time this season for the first time since the 2006 spring race at Bristol. He becomes the fifth different driver to capture the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race award this season.
Wallace won the pole for today’s race at Bristol, his first pole in 24 career Busch Series starts. His best previous start was third in the spring race at Bristol in 2006.
Wallace finished 34th completing 261 of the 300 laps. He is UNOFFICIALLY 20th in the Busch Series championship standings, seven points behind 19th-place Regan Smith.
Mike Wallace leads the WIX Filters Lap Leader standings and is the only driver to win the award more than once this season.
STEVE WALLACE QUOTES: “That’s good to win the WIX Filters award. We had rough day. We had a good start at least and I just got impatient and drove into the back of a lapped car. It tore us up and we had to go to the back and they all wrecked right in front of me. We got the pole, which was very cool and awesome. We’re real anxious to get to Nashville. We run good there last year. We ran ninth there last year and were running fourth and blew a motor up. It all went downhill as soon as I wrecked the lapped car [smiles]. It was my fault but we’ll be all right. ”
