Sharpie Mini 300 - Jon Wood Notes

Wood Finds Comfort Zone At Bristol

JON WOOD IN COMFORT ZONE ON BRISTOL’S HIGH BANKS

Jon Wood loves to go fast. He also loves short track racing. That makes Saturday’s Sharpie Mini 300 at the Bristol Motor Speedway the best of both worlds.

Wood will be in his comfort zone aboard the Clorox Ford Fusion this Saturday. The Bristol Motor Speedway is the fastest half-mile track in the world, and that only adds to Wood’s confidence. To be successful at Bristol, Wood said a driver has to be willing to do a lot of bumping to move people out of the way. At the same time, it has to be done skillfully so it doesn’t hurt the car.

The Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Ford has a good record during the spring race at Bristol. In two springtime starts, Wood has started 16th and 11th, finishing 11th and 17th.

Wood is trying to rebound from an accident last week at Atlanta. He knows the best way to make up ground at Bristol is to avoid all the accidents and keep all the fenders on his Ford.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY
Jon Wood, driver of the No. 47 Clorox All Ford Fusion:
“Bristol couldn’t come at a better time for me and our Clorox Ford. I love to race at Bristol because you can really get after it. You can be aggressive, and yet, you have to be smart. It’s a real driver’s racetrack.

“Track position is very important, so we’ll put a lot of work into practice. We want the car to be comfortable for 300 laps, but we can save ourselves a lot of work during the race if we can qualify well. It’s so hard to make up ground there, especially since the only way to do it is to knock somebody out of the way. out-brake somebody going into the turns or taking the long way around on the outside. And all three of those options come with risks.”

Scott Zipadelli, Crew Chief of the No. 47 Clorox Ford Fusion:
“We had a little setback last week at Atlanta, but this race team will rebound at Bristol. We’ve always had a good short track program at Wood Brothers/JTG Racing. Jon has the perfect makeup for Bristol. He loves to go fast and he loves short track racing. A good finish at Bristol should get us back into the Top 10, and right now, that’s our goal.”
