WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE NICORETTE 300 NASCAR BUSCH SERIES RACE AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY, MARCH 17, 2007.
Mike Wallace led once for one lap to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in today’s Nicorette 300. Wallace had led at least one lap in four of the first five races this season (four times in four races for a total of four laps). He has been running at the finish of all five races this season.
Wallace finished 17th on the lead lap and is UNOFFICIALLY eighth in the Busch Series championship standings. He is 16 points behind seventh-place Marcos Ambrose and leads ninth-place Jeff Burton by 16.
Wallace has taken the lead in the WIX Filters Lap Leader standings, claiming the award for the second time this season.
WALLACE QUOTES: “We appreciate the involvement by WIX and their support to our program. And we enjoy the money [smiles]. We ended up 17th and what we did, we were good enough that we stopped and topped off with fuel. We stayed out and played the fuel gamble and it paid off. We were getting ready to get bit by it but it didn’t happen. We stayed out so long the other guys had new tires and had so much time on us but then they crashed on the back straightaway. It worked out well. Sometimes you’re not the fastest, you just try to be the smartest [smiles].”
