Event Preview Fact Sheet
Event/Date: Nicorette 300 – March 17, 2007
Venue: Atlanta Motor Speedway – Hampton, Ga.
NOTES:
This Week’s BB&T Chevrolet at Atlanta Motor Speedway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 063 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new last year for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Bowyer drove this car to an 11th-place finish in its only start.
Looking to Turn the Corner … Atlanta has been a bit of an Achilles Heel for the Emporia, Kan., native. In three NASCAR Busch Series starts at the ultra-fast suburban Atlanta oval, Bowyer has an 11th-place stating average and an 18.2 finishing average with his best finish of 14th coming last March at the 1.54-mile raceway.
RCR Busch Cars in the ATL … Historically, RCR Busch cars have struggled at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS). In 14 starts, dating back to 2000, RCR has scored just one top-five and four top-10 finishes at Atlanta, though the top five was Jeff Burton’s win last March in the No. 21 Chevrolet.
Triple Threat … Bowyer will compete in all three NASCAR-sanctioned races this weekend at AMS. In addition to his duties in the driver’s seat of the No. 2 BB&T Chevy on Saturday, he will race the Kevin Harvick Inc.-owned No. 2 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado in Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event and the No. 07 DIRECTV NASCAR HotPass Chevrolet Monte Carlo in Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. The American Freight Lines 200 will be televised live on SPEED Friday, March 16 beginning at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race can also be heard live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio. The Kobalt Tools 500 will be telecast live on FOX Sunday, March 18 beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT. The fourth race on the 2007 NEXTEL Cup schedule will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network (PRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Up to Speed … Live television coverage of the Nicorette 300 from Atlanta Motor Speedway will take the green flag Saturday, March 17 beginning at 2:30 p.m. EDT on ABC. The event will also be broadcast live on PRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the fifth race on the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series slate will be televised live on SPEED Saturday, March 17 at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
CLINT BOWYER QUOTES
It seems like you’ve struggled a little bit in the past at Atlanta. Is there any one thing that you can point to that has been your Achilles Heel?
“I don’t think it has been any one thing in particular. We’ve had some bad luck and kind of struggled with the handle on our Busch cars at Atlanta the last couple of years but I really like racing at Atlanta. I think it puts on a great show for the fans and I know most of the drivers look forward to this race. I know our finishes don’t necessarily reflect it but we’ve had cars capable of winning that race. Our timing was probably a little bit off more than anything. We’ve got a great BB&T Chevrolet for this race so, hopefully, we got all of our bad luck out of the way last weekend in Las Vegas.”
What’s it take to be fast at Atlanta?
“Atlanta separates the men from the boys, that’s for sure. You’ve got to let it all hang out and go for broke. It’s a very fast race track. The coolest thing about Atlanta is that it’s fast, but it’s not that one-groove fast, like some of the other tracks we go to. You can race two-and three-wide. You’ll have one car clear up by the wall and another way down on the white line and one running in the middle. It’s really a racy racetrack – a lot of fun to race on and I’m looking forward to it.”
