Telcel-Motorola 200 - Kertus Davis Notes

Kertus Davis
No. 77 Dollar General Stores Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Team Report
NASCAR Busch Series Race 3 of 35—Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY RACE RECAP:
Kertus Davis made his debut in the No. 77 Dollar General stores Chevrolet at California Speedway; race two of a 35 race season. Davis started the weekend strong in the two NASCAR Busch Series practice sessions, but rode the ‘learning curve’ wave for his first start in the No. 77 machine for Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI).

AUTODROMO HERMANOS RODRIGUEZ FACTS & STATS:

  • Kertus Davis will make his NASCAR Busch Series road course debut at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, Mexico.
  • Davis hasn’t raced on a road course since he was eight years old, racing in go-karts. “My first road course race was in a go-kart outside Darlington (S.C.) Speedway; I finished third that day,” said Kertus Davis. Davis has not raced any other type of race car, besides a go-kart, on a road course.
  • “Testing at VIR (VIRginia International Raceway) helped me out a lot mentally,” said Kertus Davis. “With Kevin [Harvick] being there it was a tremendous help. Kevin would run a lap and then I would run a lap. We would come in and review the data on where I needed to improve on the track. Running the test at VIR gives me a lot more confidence going into Mexico.”
  • “Having both [Ron] Fellows and [Ron] Hornaday there will be very instrumental; both will help quite a bit for my first experience on a road course,” commented Kertus Davis. “Hornaday and Fellows have so much knowledge to work off of; it will be helpful for me to have access to two veterans of the sport, specifically on road courses.”

CREW CHIEF CORNER WITH WALLY ROGERS: “I think if he [Kertus Davis] uses patience, he’ll do fine,” said Wally Rogers, crew chief of the No. 77 Dollar General stores car. “His go-karting experience will help him because road course racing is a whole different animal.”

“With having [Ron] Hornaday and [Ron] Fellows being at the track, Kertus will have plenty of veteran experience to feed off of. It’s a learning curve, if you haven’t done it before it’s going to be tough at first. Most places these drivers go they only have two entries and two exits to worry about. At a road course you have nine to 12 turns to worry about.”

“Kertus did a good job at VIR (VIRginia International Raceway). He picked up six seconds from the time he started.”

KHI SOUTH OF THE BORDER: Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) has traveled south of the border to Mexico City, Mexico for the NASCAR Busch Series race the last two seasons (2005/2006). Kertus Davis and rookie driver Cale Gale tested at VIRginia International Raceway in the 2006/2007 off-season. Team co-owner and driver, Kevin Harvick, was on-site to help the new KHI family members at road course racing, in preparation for Mexico.
