To recognize the history of the NASCAR Busch Series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006, each week we’ll take a look back into David Green’s 16-year racing history, as it relates to this week’s track:

In 2004, Green and the Brewco team took an untested car to Talladega and the driver posted his highest-ever finish at the Speedway (ninth) in the Aaron’s 312. The No. 37 Brewco car started in the 14th position for the race. The finish marked Green’s seventh top-ten of 2004, more than any other driver at that point in the season. Following the race, Green was second in the NASCAR Busch Series standings, trailing fellow Owensboro, KY native Michael Waltrip by seventeen points.

David Green on Talladega:
“(Crew chief) Stewart (Cooper) and the guys have worked non-stop on getting an all new Ford Fusion built especially for Talladega. We are pumped up and ready to redeem our selves from our last restrictor plate race – a tough one in Daytona.

“Talladega seems to be more a speed sensitive track versus Daytona, which is more of a handling sensitive track. That really lets you move around more to set-up passing opportunities, versus protecting your lanes at Daytona. With that in mind, the Brewco crew prepared this car just for those demands. Couple that with what we learned in February at Daytona, especially in regards to this year’s Fusion versus last year’s Taurus, and we know we are right on track for a great performance in Talladega.

“The characteristics of the track at Talladega allows for packs to run three-to-four wide on a consistent basis. That makes it every bit as nerve racking as Daytona, but still a lot of fun when your car is good and you can go up and bump draft the guy in front of you. With a good car, you can really ‘play the game,’ meaning that you can move around and try different lanes to find that partner you need to help you stay up front. You still have to make sure you keep the fenders on the car for the first two-thirds of the race, and then let it all hang out for the last 20 laps.”
