O'Reilly 300 - Texas Motor Speedway

Kurt Busch Wins in Busch Series Debut
Kurt Busch is batting 1.000. Busch won the O’Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway in his NASCAR Busch Series debut. He is the fifth driver in series history to win in his first career start. The last driver to accomplish the feat was Terry Labonte at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the fall of 1985. Dale Earnhardt (Daytona, 1982), Joe Ruttman (Dover, 1982) and Ricky Rudd (Dover, 1983) are the other three drivers to win in their series debut. He also became the 16th driver to win in the each of the premier NASCAR Series. After Kevin Harvick dominated early, Busch was dominant late. Although Busch was unable to relax as six cautions mired the final 49 laps, including three restarts in the final 14 laps. The race would end in a green-white-checker finish with Busch holding off Greg Biffle by 0.266 seconds to take the checkered flag. Busch would end up leading the final 70 laps on the day. Biffle would not lead a single lap and settle for second place, while Casey Mears finished in the third spot. Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top five, while Paul Menard was the highest finishing driver who is not a regular on the NEXTEL Cup circuit, coming home seventh.
