Tim Sauter Ready for Return to Richmond

Tim Sauter returns to the drivers seat this Friday evening after sitting out last Saturday’s Ameriquest 300 at the California Speedway to recover from a hard crash on August 25th at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The Wisconsin Busch Series driver was checked-out by NASCAR neurologist Dr. Jerry Petty on Tuesday and is ready to get back to the track.

Sauter finished 39th at the spring race in Richmond after being involved in two separate incidents during the event. The first one was contact from his brother Jay, before a flat tire caused the second wreck that ultimately put Tim out of the race. “Our visit to Richmond in the spring was a unique one,” Sauter said. “I’m ready to put everything behind us, because we’ve got eight more races this year. Right now I just want to do the best I can to get some strong finishes and get the McGill team back into the top-thirty in owners points.”

“I feel good, I’m ready to get back in the car this week. Drivers don’t like to sit out, but it was a good thing that I didn’t go to California last week, once I got home I realized how sore I was. When Dr. Petty examined me at Bristol he explained to me the risk of taking another hit so soon which made an easy decision to take the week off,” Sauter added. “When we met again on Tuesday (September 5th) he told me he appreciated and respected the fact I took the week off that not all drivers would be willing to do that.”

This weekend’s race at the fast three-quarter mile racetrack marks the end of the “summer stretch” for the NBS teams who will finally get a week off after sixteen straight weeks of competition. There are 47 cars pre-entered for the Emerson Radio 250. The green flag will drop at 7:30 ET on Friday, August 25th and will be televised live on TNT.

This will be Tim’s 108th start in the NBS and 113th career NASCAR start.

All three Sauter brothers will attempt to make the Emerson Radio 250.

Tim is currently 25th in the NBS driver point standings.

This will be the eighth time Tim has competed at Richmond in the NBS. Best Finish; 10th on May 4th, 2002 driving the AP Performance Chevy.

Tim’s thoughts on the Richmond International Raceway: “The McGill team is bringing a pretty good racecar to Richmond this week, it’s the same car we ran real well with at New Hampshire and Martinsville. I think we can make a little noise here on Friday night; Richmond is one of my favorite tracks. I’m ready to get in the car, have some fun, and go race.”

This will be the seventh time McGill Motorsports has competed at Richmond International Raceway in the NBS. Best Finish: 14th on September 5th, 2003 with Steve Grissom driving.
