Last Saturday Robby Gordon drove the No. 88 Navy Chevrolet to a ninth-place finish at California Speedway. The finish marked the team’s fifth top 10 of the season. The JR Motorsports’s No. 88 is currently ranked 19th in the Busch Series owners point standings.

“I’m excited to get back behind the wheel of the No. 88 Navy Chevy this weekend. I hated having to sit out at California. I think the more track time I get in these cars and get acclimated to running with the guys in the Busch Series, the better I’ll be.
“I’ve raced at Richmond before, so that will help me get adjusted a little bit easier on Friday. Wes (Ward, crew chief) and the whole Navy team have a great fleet of cars that are poised to run up front each week. I’ve just got to get up on the wheel and get good finishes for them.”
Wes Ward, Crew Chief, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
“Richmond is one of my favorite tracks. I got a win there in 1995 when I was Dale Jarrett’s crew chief and the track has always been good to me in the past.
“It has that short track racing under the lights atmosphere, which reminds a lot of the guys out there of how they got their start racing at short tracks across the country. It’s also close enough to home that we’ll have a lot of family and friends in attendance.”
Navy Notables
The fleet honoree for Friday’s race at Richmond International Raceway is Helicopter Combat Support Special Squadron FOUR (HCS-4). Known as the "Red Wolves" – HCS-4 is a unique Naval Aviation Squadron with dedicated, specialized mission tasking and equipment. Located in Norfolk, VA, its illustrious history began with the “Seawolves” of Helicopter Attack Light Squadron THREE (HA(L)-3), which primarily operated in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam War. Today, HCS-4 is a primary response unit in contingency and wartime operations for two challenging and demanding primary missions: Naval Special Warfare Support and Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR). In this past year alone, HCS-4 flew 2500 hours and nearly 950 sorties, two-thirds of which were combat flights in Iraq.
