Emerson Radio 250 - Kevin Harvick Notes

Kevin Harvick
No. 21 U.S. Coast Guard Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event/Date: Emerson Radio 250 – September 8, 2006
Venue: Richmond (Va.) International Raceway

NOTES:

  • This Week’s Race Car at Richmond International Raceway … Kevin Harvick will pilot Chassis No. 058 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new for 2006, this is the same car Harvick drove to victory in Martinsville and Indianapolis earlier this season.
  • Stat Facts … In 11 Busch Series starts at Richmond International Raceway, Harvick has posted one pole, three wins, seven top-five and eight top-10 finishes. The Bakersfield, Calif., native also has been running at the finish of all 11 races.
  • Going for Three in a Row … Harvick has won the past two NASCAR Busch Series races at RIR (September 2005 and May 2006). With a win at this year’s Emerson Radio 250, Harvick would become the second driver to win three consecutive NASCAR Busch Series races at America’s Premier short track. Harry Gant completed the feat in 1991 and 1992. Additionally, a win would tie Harvick with Gant for second most NASCAR Busch Series wins at RIR and would put him just on behind Mark Martin for the most wins (five).
  • Leading the Way … With Harvick’s second-place finish at California, he has 10 consecutive top-10 finishes. He also leads the field in top-five finishes with 17, top-10 finishes with 24 and has finished on the lead lap in all 27 races.
  • Coast Guard Reserves … Harvick will drive a specially painted No. 21 Monte Carlo SS in the Emerson Radio 250 NASCAR Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway. Harvick’s car will feature Coast Guard Reserves graphics to salute the 8,100 men and women that serve as Reservist across the Untied States. The Coast Guard Reserves logo will adorn the hood and rear quarter-panels on the No. 21 Chevrolet.
  • Media Opportunity … Harvick will be available outside the No. 29 GM Goodwrench transporter to field questions from the media Friday, September 8 at 1:30 p.m.
  • RCR at Richmond … In 31 previous Busch Series races at Richmond, RCR has posted three wins (Harvick 2003, 2005 and 2006), one pole (Harvick 2003), 10 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 445 laps at Richmond International Raceway.
  • Up to Speed … The Emerson Radio 250 at Richmond International Raceway will be televised live Friday, September 8 beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT on TNT. The Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite will also carry the race broadcast live. Qualifying for the Emerson Radio 250 will air live on SPEED Friday, September 8 beginning at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

    KEVIN HARVICK QUOTES:

Do you enjoy racing at Richmond International Raceway?
“Yes, I enjoy Richmond. It has the speed of a faster track. The new pavement has spread the grooves out and you can run three and four lanes up the race track. It is a pretty cool track to race on. With tire pressures being mandated at what they are, it makes it hard to make the car handle after about 25 or 30 laps because the right front tire gets so much air in it. It’s still a cool track to race on.”

Why have you had such success in the Busch races at Richmond?
“We’ve just had good cars and put ourselves in position to win in the end. It’s just something where you have to put yourself in position and go from there and do everything you can to cross the finish line first.”
