Danny O'Quinn Jr. heads to Richmond for a Big Weekend
O'Quinn Jr. has a big birthday to celebrate this weekend: his 21st. His big day is Sunday May 7, and for the weekend of his 21st, he will return to the type of track the he runs best on: the short tracks.
O'Quinn Jr. posted his best finish of the year (11th) on the short track in Bristol, T.N. earlier this year, and hopes that he can better that best finish this weekend in his home state, and make it a big weekend for himself and the whole No. 50 Stonebridge Team.
Danny on the weekend:
"It's my birthday this weekend--a big birthday-I'm turning 21--so we're hoping for a big weekend. I love racing on short tracks and I have run well on them so far this season, so we're hoping for a good finish, and heck, maybe even our first win. That would be a nice birthday present."
What are you going to do for your birthday?
"I am going to spend the rest of the weekend hanging out with my family in Coeburn, Va., celebrating my 21st birthday."
On racing at Richmond International Raceway:
“I am definitely excited about Richmond. It is another home-state track for me, and it’s a short track. I enjoy short-tracks, and we’ve done well on them this year—our best finish came at the short track in my hometown [Bristol], so I am looking forward to racing there. We had the opportunity to test at Richmond a few weeks ago, and I think we have a great car. I really enjoyed the track and I am looking forward to a good run there in our Stonebridge Life Insurance Ford Fusion.”
Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer on racing at Richmond International Raceway:
“Richmond is one of the best tracks we go to. It incorporates every aspect of the car, driver and team. You need a good motor, a good [car] body, a good driver, and good pit stops to win at Richmond. We had a good test there, so we are taking the same car with us to race there. We have run the best on the short tracks this year, so we think we should run well this week.”
FAST FACTS
This will be O’Quinn Jr.’s first start at the Richmond International Raceway.
Although he has no previous starts at Richmond, O’Quinn Jr. and team expect a good weekend. The No. 50 Ford Fusion has run best on the short tracks, and posted a best finish of the year on the short-track in Bristol, Tennessee in late March (11th place). O’Quinn Jr. hopes that this weekend he can improve that best-finish position.
The. No. 50 team will be bringing the same car they tested in Richmond earlier this season, chassis RK-144.
