Basha's Supermarkets 200 - Tim Sauter Notes

Tim Sauter Phoenix Pre-Race
McGill Motorsports Returns to Race in Valley of the Sun

The lights shined bright last April for McGill Motorsports at the Phoenix International Raceway. Stanton Barrett started 21st and finished 12th in one of the better finishes of the season for the upstart team. “We had a good car that evening, the team did a great job and I think we are going to have just as good a car here this weekend,” said crew chief Ricky Pearson.

This year’s McGill Motorsports driver Tim Sauter, can look back on his days racing on the short-tracks of the Midwest. “I’ve always liked the flat tracks, some guys have a hard time, but I’ve been fortunate to be able to get a feel for what the car wanted without the banking and to find a good line. Phoenix is no exception, it’s a real unique track and you’re wide open through the dogleg. The changes they have made in the last couple years have opened the track up even more. I’m real excited to see how this car will perform in the Valley of the Sun.”

McGill Motorsports owners John and Nancy McGill are running again this week without a major sponsor. "Any partnership with McGill Motorsports will be a successful one. We will work as hard as we can to provide value for your marketing dollars,” explained Nancy. “We have a first class operation, we’re committed to the long haul and are trying hard to build this team up to the next level."

For John McGill, the return to Phoenix is a great opportunity to turn the team’s luck around. “We are bringing the car we ran at Bristol, and then took to last month’s Richmond test. Tim and Ricky were real happy when they returned from Richmond. They found some things that seemed to help this car roll through the center of the corner. It’s never exactly the same on a different track, but we feel this car is a good piece. We have to approach things a little differently and look at more of a qualifying set-up, then adjust the car once the race starts. But, I’m confident this car is good enough and our Wegner motors have been great this year.”

  • This will be Tim’s 92nd start in the NBS and 97th career NASCAR start.

  • All three Sauter brothers will attempt to make the Bashas' Supermarkets 200.

  • This will be the third time Tim has competed at Phoenix in the NBS.

    November 2000 - Outback Steakhouse 200 – Finished 21st, started 12th.

    November 2002 - Bashas’ Supermarket 200 - Finished 36th, (accident) started 16th.

Tim’s thoughts on Phoenix international Raceway: “I’m a little sore from last week’s crash, but I feel good. Sometimes it takes something bad to make something good. I never want to say wrecking a racecar is a good thing, but I think after last week we know what we need to do to turn this deal around and change our luck. Ricky has a good solid car for this weekend, I’m ready to go show everyone how good this team can be.”

McGill Motorsports will run the Lester Buildings banner for 19 of the remaining races on the 2006 Busch Series schedule. The team is actively seeking primary sponsorship for the eight remaining events. Contact John McGill at 440-914-4206 or visit www.mcgillmotorsports.com to learn more.
