Kroger 200 Benefiting Riley Hospital - O’Reilly Raceway Park
Harvick Dominates at ORP
Runaway NASCAR Busch Series points leader Kevin Harvick padded his lead on Saturday night at O'Reilly Raceway Park when he put on a dominating performance to win the Kroger 200 benefiting Riley Hospital. The story was simple at ORP, one race, two leaders, the pole sitter led first and the race winner led last. Denny Hamlin won the pole position and led the first 83 laps before Harvick, starting from the sixth position, would take the lead and stay out front until the checkered flag flew, 117 laps later. With the win, Harvick piled onto his monstrous lead atop the points, now leading by 347 points over Carl Edwards in second place with 12 races to go. For Harvick, the 2001 Busch Series champion and NEXTEL Cup Series regular, the win was his fifth of the season, best on the circuit, and the 22nd of his NBS career. After 23 races in 2006, 21 times has a NEXTEL Cup Series driver invaded victory lane in NASCAR’s Busch Series. Paul Menard is the only full-time Busch Series regular that has won a race this season, David Gilliland, running a limited schedule, won at Kentucky. Reed Sorenson finished in the second position, 1.414 seconds behind Harvick. "I had a pretty good car tonight,” said Sorenson. “But I didn't have enough for the 21." J.J. Yeley crossed the stripe in third place, followed by Greg Biffle in fourth. Harvick’s teammate Jeff Burton, pole-sitter for the NEXTEL Cup event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, ended his night in the fifth position.
Hamlin Runs to Second Pole in a Row
Denny Hamlin ran to his second consecutive NASCAR Busch Series pole position, winning the top starting position for tonight’s Kroger 200 Benefiting Riley Hospital at O'Reilly Raceway Park. Coming off last weekend’s pole at Gateway, Hamlin qualified in 22.361 seconds, at an average speed of 110.442 mph, to capture his series-leading sixth pole of the season. This is the No. 20 team’s seventh pole of 2006, Aric Almirola qualified the car on the pole for Hamlin at Milwaukee. Clint Bowyer will join Hamlin on the front row, qualifying on the outside pole position. Ron Hornaday, fresh off a third-place run in last night’s truck race, will start third in tonight’s Busch race driving for Kevin Harvick. Burney Lamar will roll off fourth in Harvick’s second car while Almirola will start fifth.
