SAUTER AND TEAM YELLOW RACING GEAR UP FOR SECOND TIME AROUND AT
NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY
MURFREESBORO, TN (June 8, 2006) - As the NASCAR Busch Series prepares
to return to Nashville Superspeedway for their second event of the
season, Johnny Sauter and Team Yellow Racing prepare to take advantage
of a run of three consecutive stand-alone events for the Busch Series.
Sauter is currently posted ninth in the championship point standings
thanks in part to the possibilities created by his Team Yellow pit crew.
In 13 events this season, the Team Yellow crew has won the
Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Pit Crew Challenge five times,
leading their nearest competitor by three events. Each week, the award
goes to the crew who tallies the least amount of total time during pit
stops per event. They won their latest Pit Crew Challenge two weeks ago
at Lowe's Motor Speedway, fueling Sauter's confidence going into
Nashville.
"We've come so close at Nashville in the past; it's one of those races
that I really get psyched up for," Sauter said. "I'm really confident in
the car that we're bringing back here and with this Team Yellow crew
behind me, I feel like we have the whole package. You just can't put a
price tag on good pit stops and these guys have been awesome all year."
Sauter's record at Nashville is highlighted by a pole in 2003 and two
second-place finishes in April of 2003 and 2004. Looking to overcome
the 27th-place finish in his last Nashville outing, Sauter comes into
this weekend's event with three top-10 and nine top-15 finishes. Hoping
to finally tackle the win that he's been so close to at Nashville, the
Necedah, WI native says he'll rely on his short track expertise for this
weekend's event.
"Nashville is classified as a superspeedway, but it really races like a
short track," said Sauter. "It has the long straightaways, but with
the concrete surface - it has a lot of grip and you can wheel the car
around it like a short track. I got my start racing on tracks like this
so I always enjoy racing here. Our team is focused on creating
possibilities for success this weekend and hopefully at the end of the
day, we'll be wheeling the Haas/Yellow Chevy into victory lane."
Although there will be a strong showing of Nextel Cup competitors who
will commute from Pocono Raceway to the 1.33-mile tri-oval at Nashville
Superspeedway this weekend, Sauter and team hope the benefit of focusing
on one event will prevail in the end.
Unlike the previous visit to Nashville in April when the Cup teams were
idle, this time around, those pulling double-duty will have to rely on
substitute drivers to practice and possibly qualify their Nashville
entries.
"We're really looking forward to Nashville and making the most of what
opportunities we'll have this weekend," said Sauter. "The Cup drivers
will still be a factor so it's not that we're expecting to have a huge
advantage, but any advantage you can gain is really valuable. The Busch
Series is so competitive, now you really have to be at the top of your
game if you're going to get to victory lane."
Live television coverage of Saturday's Federated Auto Parts 300 begins
at 7:30pm ET on FX. MRN will carry the live radio broadcast.
