Goody’s 250 - Tim Sauter Notes

Tim Sauter Martinsville Preview
Former ASA National Champion Loves to Race on Short Tracks

Despite a 26th place finish at last weeks New England 200, Tim Sauter and the McGill Motorsports team head to the Martinsville with renewed optimism for the running of Saturday’s Goody’s 250. Sauter is the 1999 ASA National Champion, a series run entirely on short tracks similar to Martinsville Speedway. Tim has logged tens of thousands of laps over his twenty-year racing career, many of them on tracks similar to the 12-degree banked half-mile at Martinsville.

The team is bringing the same Lester Buildings Chevy they ran at New Hampshire last week. Tim Sauter was very encouraged by the way the car handled at the flat one-mile track in last Saturday and feels that they can improve the handling this week. “That was about the best we have gotten the car to cut through the center of the corner all year, but the early flat tire lead to poor track position and that hurt our finish, we were a lot better than 26th,” Sauter said. “We have the open practice on Thursday to keep working on making this car even better.”

This will be the first time the NASCAR Busch Series has run at Martinsville Speedway since 1994. It will be the first time many of the competitors in the Busch Series have raced at Martinsville including McGill Motorsports driver Tim Sauter. “I’m really looking forward to getting back to the short tracks, all we need is a little good luck this weekend and we can have a strong finish. I think everyone on this team is excited about coming to Martinsville.”

There are 47 entries for the Goody’s 250. The green flag will drop at 3:00 ET on Saturday, July 22nd and will be televised live on NBC.

  • This will be Tim’s 104th start in the NBS and 109th career NASCAR start.

  • All three Sauter brothers will attempt to make the Goody’s 250.

  • Tim is currently 24th in the NBS driver point standings.

  • This will be the first time Tim Sauter has competed at Martinsville in the NBS.

Tim’s thoughts on the Martinsville Speedway: “I’m excited to get to the track for the open practice on Thursday. The set-up for Martinsville is not a whole lot different than we ran last week at Loudon, so I can’t wait to see how this car will run on the half-mile, I think we should be pretty good.”

  • This will be the first time McGill Motorsports has competed at Martinsville in the NBS.

Affordable primary sponsorship is available on the McGill Motorsports Chevy Monte Carlo SS for five of the remaining races on the 2006 NBS schedule. Interested parties should contact John McGill at 440-914-4206, or visit mcgillmotorsports.com to learn more.
