LEICHT MEMPHIS NOTES-
Stephen Leicht will return to the site where he made his NASCAR Busch Series debut as the series rolls into Memphis Motorsports Park. Leicht, who was just 18 years old at the time, posted an impressive eighth place qualifying effort and a 13th-place finish. This weekend, Leicht hopes familiarity will help him improve on last years finish as he makes his 19th NASCAR Busch Series start during the running of the Sam’s Town 250.
LEICHT’S Q & A-
You are finally returning to a track that you have raced on before, something that hasn’t happened to you in over 11 races, that must be a little comforting.
"When you go to a track you don't know, it takes half a practice just to get used to the racetrack. You have to realize where the boundaries are, where you can't run. To be able to go to a track and already know all that stuff, it just helps everyone. It is reassuring to the (crew) guys when they know that I have a little more confidence in myself going into this weekend."
You made your first NASCAR Busch Series start at Memphis, did you think that one start would have such an impact on your career?
“I looked at my debut in Memphis like a tryout. No one told me that, but I knew that I had to have a great showing to have a chance to race this year. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was so nervous but excited at the same time. To have the chance to compete for a great team like Robert Yates Racing with the backing of CitiFinancial as the sponsor is an opportunity of a lifetime and I didn’t want to mess it up.”
CHASSIS INFORMATION-The CitiFinancial team is taking chassis No.B8 to Memphis. This is the same chassis that RYR raced at both Bristol events (started 21st, finished 24th in the spring and started 35th and finished 35th in the fall) , and Darlington (started 25th, finished 25th) earlier this season.
