Sam's Town 250 - Stacy Compton Notes

Compton's Kingsford Sure Fire/Bush's Baked Beans Ford Look to Extend Success at Memphis Motorsports Park

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - There are four races remaining in the Busch Series season. That gives Stacy Compton four chances to give his Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team its first victory in the junior circuit since 1996.

According to Compton, the last four racetracks are some of his best.

"Before we hand this Kingsford Sure Fire/Bush's Baked Beans Ford over to Marcos (Ambrose) next year, we want to make sure it's a winning car," Compton said. "We've always felt the last four racetracks are some of our best. We like the way the schedule plays out."

Compton will travel to the three-quarter-mile Memphis Motorsports Park for Saturday afternoon's Sam's Town 250. It's a speedway where he already has a second-place finish in 2002.

"I love short tracks that you have to approach with a speedway mentality," Compton said. "I've always had a good record at Memphis. When there were five races to go, we thought Charlotte was the one that presented the biggest challenge. It's such a hit-or-miss track for us, and we came out of there with a third-place finish.

"If Charlotte was a sign of things to come, you have to like our chances. Now we're going to four tracks that we like. We have a fast car, a lot of confidence and some momentum for this stretch drive."

Compton will be making his 170th consecutive start with Wood Brothers/JTG Racing and Kingsford. It's the longest-running tenure between a driver, race team and sponsor in the Busch Series. He now has an opportunity to drive for the team in the Craftsman Truck Series.

"The truth is, we don't need motivation to win races," Compton said. "Everyone on this race team is committed to doing that. But I'm excited about my next step with Wood Brothers/JTG Racing. Before I make the switch, I want to put Kingsford in Victory Lane. And I can't think of four better tracks to make that happen.

"The important thing for me is I'm continuing my relationship with a great racing organization."

Qualifying for the Sam's Town 250 is at 11:05 a.m. on Saturday. The main event follows later that afternoon at 2:10 on TNT.
