Auggie’s Mission from Morris Ended Early After Being a Top-10 Tale:
Auggie Vidovich was on a mission from Morris’ the Cat during the Dollar General 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Vidovich and the Biagi DenBeste Racing team were excited to run the colors of 9Lives® and were equally excited to help raise awareness for Morris’ Cat Rescue Campaign. After qualifying 26th, Vidovich wasted no time working his way into the top-twenty in the opening laps. At the first pit stop on lap 38, Vidovich dove into his pit stall where the crew made an adjustment to free him up and put two tires on the car, returning him to the track 19th. As the laps clicked off, Vidovich worked his way into the top-15. Crew Chief, Joe Dan Bailey brought Vidovich to pit road for their second stop on lap 97, where Bailey called for a slight air pressure adjustment, four tires, and fuel. The pit crew had a strong stop, returning Vidovich to the track 13th. Vidovich was battling for position when Tony Stewart spun at the front of the field. Vidovich locked down the brakes on the No. 4 car but was tagged from behind and sent forcefully into the rear of another car. His cat-like reflexes helped save the 9Lives® Dodge from what could have been terminal damage, and the crew was able to temporarily repair the now concave hood under caution on lap 107. After the restart on lap 113, Vidovich’s car seemed alright as he moved into 10th position but disaster was just a turn away as the concave hood added too much down force to the front of the car causing the rear to loose weight and snap loose coming out of turn two on lap 114. Vidovich’s cat-like reflexes were not enough to help save it after he was hit by Jeff Burton and sent slamming into the infield retaining wall. Vidovich was not hurt after the savage wreck but the team was forced to call it a night and settle for a 33rd place finish.
