AT&T 250 - Kyle Busch Notes

KYLE BUSCH -- NO. 5 LOWE'S/STA-GREEN CHEVROLET
THE MILWAUKEE MILE PREVIEW

HOUSEWARMING GIFT: Sta-Green, a sponsor of the No. 5 Lowe's Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series, recently gave driver Kyle Busch a total yard makeover, complete with an in-ground irrigation system, a separate dog area and even palm trees. Busch, a Las Vegas native who just purchased his first home near Charlotte, N.C., has been personally tracking the progress, from dirt and rock to a lush lakeside lawn. Sta-Green is a line of fertilizers, seeds and mulches by Spectrum Brands.

SETZER SUBBING: With Busch obligated to participate in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series festivities in Sonoma, Calif., veteran Dennis Setzer will drive Busch Series practice in the No. 5 Lowe's/Sta-Green Chevy at The Milwaukee Mile on Saturday. Setzer has won twice at the Busch Series level and 16 times in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

WALTER PICKS CHASSIS 345: Chad Walter, crew chief of the No. 5 Lowe's/Sta-Green Chevrolet, has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 345 as the primary option for Saturday's Busch Series event at The Milwaukee Mile. The car, which the team tested with Setzer at Caraway Speedway on Monday, finished ninth at Richmond, Va., in May.

NO REST FOR THE WEARY: Following Sunday's event at Infineon Raceway, Busch will fly back to Milwaukee for a two-day Cup test session before heading to Daytona Beach, Fla., for next weekend's Busch-Cup doubleheader.

FLY BOY: Competing in West Allis, Wis., on Saturday and Sonoma, Calif., on Sunday, Busch is scheduled to log 7,378 air miles this weekend.

BUSCH AT MILWAUKEE: Busch has made one career start at The Milwaukee Mile, finishing 16th in the 2004 Busch Series event there.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 LOWE'S/STA-GREEN CHEVROLET: (ON MISSING PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING AT MILWAUKEE.) "This weekend is going to be tough, for sure. You're almost going into it blindly. I missed both practice sessions at Nashville and had a hard time steering the car in qualifying. I was able to make it to the final practice session at Kentucky last weekend and had a serious shot of winning the race. It really does make a difference. The first lap of the race at Milwaukee will literally be my first lap in the car all weekend. Dennis (Setzer) is a great race car driver, though, and I know he'll do his best to make the car good for race time."

BUSCH: (ON SUBSTITUTE DRIVER DENNIS SETZER.) "Dennis is a short-track ace. He's always excelled on that type of race track, so he was a natural fit to help us out at Milwaukee. He'll also be practicing the car for us at Martinsville and IRP (Indianapolis Raceway Park). He's won at all three of those tracks, so I'm sure he'll do a great job for the Lowe's/Sta-Green team."

CHAD WALTER, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 LOWE'S/STA-GREEN CHEVROLET: (ON TESTING AT CARAWAY SPEEDWAY WITH DENNIS SETZER.) "We were originally going to test with both Kyle and Dennis, but the weather didn't agree with our schedule. The main reason we wanted to get a test session in with Dennis is to help get the communication ball rolling before we actually got to the track. Dennis has made close to a thousand laps at Caraway over the years, so it's easier for him to adjust to the car there rather than wait until Milwaukee. He can give us feedback instantly during a test session instead of spending time getting used to the car and the track at the same time. Dennis has experience in nearly every kind of race car on every race track. He knows what to do. He's not doing this to promote himself. He truly is helping us to help us. Knowing that makes a tough situation easier to deal with. This team has complete faith in his abilities."

WALTER: (ON MILWAUKEE.) "The last time I raced at Milwaukee was in 1994 with Bobby Labonte Racing. In that particular race, Bobby had to fly back and forth from the Cup race in Daytona, so I guess this weekend will be a slight replay of that. The last time I was at the track, though, was for a test session with Kyle in his Cup car last summer. Milwaukee is a seriously flat one-mile oval. The track has the same shape and configuration as Loudon (N.H.). Really, though, it's very different from every track out there. Nothing compares to it."

WALTER: (WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST CONCERNS GOING INTO MILWAUKEE?) "Getting the Lowe's/Sta-Green Chevy to roll through the center is probably the biggest issue, as well as forward-bite off. That's a lot of race talk, though, so to put it simply the car that can get on the gas the quickest when exiting the turns is the car that's going to win. Milwaukee is a one-groove race track. The driver will need to get to the bottom of the track as quickly as possible and stay there if he can. Brakes are incredibly important, too. That's what we tested the most at Caraway. The track is so flat that there's nothing else to slow the car down. Milwaukee is incredibly hard on brakes."
