Looking Back:
To recognize the history of the NASCAR Busch Series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006, each week we’ll take a look back into David Green’s 16-year racing history, as it relates to this week’s track:
Green will be reunited with longtime friend Bobby Labonte for this weekend’s CarFax 250, as Labonte will pilot Brewco Motorsports’ No. 66 Cub Cadet Ford Fusion at MIS. The former NASCAR Busch Series champions will be teammates for the second time this season: Labonte was also in the No. 66 Brewco Ford at Chicagoland Speedway in July.
“I’ve known Bobby for a long time,” said Green. “He’s been a friend, a competitor, my boss, my car owner, and now my teammate. Throughout it all, he has always been my best friend, both on and off the track.”
David Green on Michigan:
“This is the single most important race for us to win this year, bar none. It’s in the backyard of Ford Motor Company and we want to give Ford Racing all the bragging rights for the next 12 months.
“MIS is very wide with multiple grooves on both ends to work around other cars. The track demands the ultimate in horsepower, downforce, fuel mileage and handling. You cannot give up on any of those things at MIS if you expect to run up front.
“We showed back in 2003 that we know what it takes to be competitive here. With the horsepower we had then, we were a top-five car all day. (Co Crew Chief) Stewart (Cooper) and the guys were great that day and we know we can do it again this weekend. The Brewco team built a brand new Ford Fusion for this race, and I know with that and the Roush/Yates horsepower, we will be right in the game.
“As always, it’s important to get the most grip you can and have your car suck down to the track at MIS. Good, fast pit stops are critical too, since this race sees a lot of green flag pit stops.
”With the August heat, the track gets very slippery in turns one and two. When turns three and four get slick, you'll see three- and four-wide racing all day long.
”Thanks to everyone at Ford Racing for all their support. It’s fun to be a part of the Ford Racing Fan Appreciation event on Thursday night.”
