Carfax 250 - Michigan International Speedway

Dale Jr. Spins Edwards to Capture Controversial Win at MIS
The Carfax 250 at Michigan International Speedway was set for an exciting green-white-checkered finish with three strong cars at the front of the field. Carl Edwards led the cars of Robby Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the green flag for a two-lap dash to the checkered flag. However, Earnhardt Jr. would take his No. 8 Menards/Johns Mansville Chevrolet to the high side on the backstretch to move alongside the car that he owns, the No. 88 Chevrolet driven by Gordon this week, and bump Edwards out of the top spot, sending the No. 60 car spinning towards the infield wall. The race would end under caution with Earnhardt declared as the winner as a cascade of boos came down from the crowd of 60,000 in attendance. Edwards would end up with a 23rd-place finish. This is Earnhardt’s 22nd career NASCAR Busch Series win over 91 career starts and his second NBS victory at Michigan International Speedway with his first win coming here in 1999. He has never finished lower than seventh at MIS in four Busch Series starts. In addition to his two wins, he finished seventh in 1997 and fifth in 1998. This is the second Busch Series victory for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2006 in only four starts for a .500 winning percentage. His other victory this season came at Daytona International Speedway in July. After NASCAR sorted things out from the scoring loops and video, Casey Mears would be credited with the second position, while Gordon was given a third-place finish. Matt Kenseth would finish fourth, followed by pole sitter Mark Martin in fifth. Jason Leffler was best-in-class as the top non-Nextel Cup driver in the 13th position.
