FAST FACTS
Aaron Fike and his fellow NASCAR Busch Series competitors take to their
first road course event of the season at this weekend's Telcel-Motorola 200 on
the 2.518-mile former Formula 1 circuit in downtown Mexico City.
After kicking off the season with a front-row qualifying effort at
Daytona two weekends ago, the 23-year-old out of Galesburg, Ill., was plagued by
a loose condition last weekend at California Speedway and managed only a 36thplace
finish in
the #43 California Pizza Kitchen Dodge of the CAPG team.
This weekend marks Fike's 40th career NASCAR Busch Series start and his
first on a road course. He prepared for the event by working for several days at
the Bondurant School and at Virginia International Raceway under veteran driving
instructor Chris Cook, who also will be racing this weekend in the #56 Mac Hill
Motorsports entry.
Sponsoring the #43 CAPG Dodge team for this weekend's third of 35 NBS
races of 2006 is RFMS, Inc., the Galesburg, Ill.-based retirement lifestyles
operation with retirement villages and assisted living facilities in northern
Illinois and
Iowa.
Sunday's race (the only Sunday event of the season) will be 80 laps,
covering 201.44 miles.
Fike's career-best NBS finish is eighth last July at Pikes Peak. His
previous best NBS qualifying effort prior to Daytona was fourth at Nashville
last June.
AARON FIKE QUOTES ON MEXICO CITY - "We're on a mission to bring home a solid
finish this weekend and beef up our points situation. We had a pretty
disappointing weekend at Fontana, but a good, solid run in Mexico will go a long
way toward turning
things back around. Basically, we have three races to work our way into the top
30 in the points so we can be in good shape for, hopefully, the rest of the
season. It'll be trial under fire for me, personally, because I've never raced
anything with
fenders on it on a road course. But we're surrounded by really good people, and
I'm confident we'll be able to get the job done. There were a lot of wrecks in
this race last year, so it seems we'll just have to stay out of trouble."
PRE-RACE SCHEDULE (All Times EST) - NBS Practice, Friday, 2:15-3:20 p.m.; NBS
Final Practice, Friday, 4:45-6 p.m.; NBS Qualifying, Saturday, 2:35 p.m. (Live
on SPEED-TV beginning at 2:30 p.m.).
