Telcel-Motorloa Mexico 200 - Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

Hamlin Wins South of the Border
Denny Hamlin won Sunday’s Telcel-Motorola 200 presented by Banamex NASCAR Busch Series race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. It was his first NASCAR Busch Series victory in his 39th series start. Road racing specialist and Busch Pole winner Boris Said led the first 26 laps, before yielding the lead to Hamlin on a pit stop under caution with 54 laps remaining. Hamlin would then lead the next 12 laps before giving up the top spot to head for pit road. Later, Hamlin would take the lead for the final time with 28 laps to go and would not look back. Hamlin would hold off Said and Kevin Harvick to grab the victory on the 2.518-mile eight-turn road course in Mexico. Hamlin’s margin of victory in his first Busch win was 1.820 seconds over Said in second place. Hamlin had a previous best series finish of third at Loudon last July. He finished 15th in this event last season after starting from 34th on the grid. Said and Harvick, who came home in the third position, are the only two drivers to finish in the top-five for both races in Mexico. Hamlin’s teammate J.J. Yeley finished in the fourth position followed by Paul Menard in fifth. Carlos Contrerras was the highest-finishing Mexican driver in the 11th position. The second annual race in Mexico featured eight lead changes among seven drivers and nine caution flags for 22 laps, slowing Hamlin’s average winning speed to 67.528 mph.

Said on Pole in Mexico
Boris Said won the pole position for Sunday’s Telcel-Motorola 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, a 2.518-mile eight-turn road course in Mexico City. Said, a familiar face on NASCAR’s road courses, grabbed his first pole south of the border when he turned in a qualifying effort of 1 minute and 28.295 seconds, at an average of 102.665 miles per hour, in the Busch Series’ second trip to Mexico City. This year’s event featured a group qualifying format that is normally used by other series on road courses but has not been used by the Busch Series in quite some time. The pole is the second in only six NBS starts for Said. Sophomore Denny Hamlin will join Said on the front row, followed by Johnny Sauter in the third starting position. Hometown heroes Adrian Fernandez and Jorge Goeters, who was on the pole for this event last year, will roll off fourth and fifth respectively.
