Notes:

  • Brewco Motorsports begins its 11th year competing in the NASCAR Busch Series. Brewco is coming off its most solid performance in the series, having placed two cars (No. 27 and No. 66) in the top-ten in points (eighth and tenth respectively) in 2005.
  • The No. 27 will have a special paint scheme this weekend, as Kimberly-Clark is featuring its Pull-Ups® brand on the hood of the car. The Pull-Ups® brand will also be featured next week at Dover International Speedway.
  • This week marks the first race at which co-crew chiefs Stewart Cooper and Shawn Parker will work together. Brewco announced last week that Parker would share co-chief duties with Cooper. A veteran in the stockcar world, Parker held his first crew chief position at the age of 14, leading a local race team in his hometown of Canandaigua, New York. He has an extensive and impressive NASCAR resume, which began when he was a member of the original No. 24 DuPont team during Jeff Gordon’s Winston Cup debut. Parker has previously served as car chief on Mark Martin's No. 6 Ford, and as crew chief for Dale Jarrett’s No. 88 Ford.
  • Last year at Charlotte, the No. 27 Brewco car started 41st and finished in 31st place.
  • In 25 starts at Charlotte, Green has three top-ten and one top-five finish.
  • This week’s Associate Sponsor is BI-LO/Bruno’s. The grocery store chain operates 340 stores in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida and employs approximately 26,000 people.

    Looking Back:
To recognize the history of the NASCAR Busch Series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006, each week we’ll take a look back into David Green’s 16-year racing history, as it relates to this week’s track:

Green started from the pole at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the 1999 spring race. It marked the only pole position Green won during that year, when he ran 17 of the 32 Bush Series races driving for Larry Hedrick. The car Green drove to the pole position was the same one that brought him a top-10 finish at Talladega and two top-ten finishes at Dover International Speedway that same year.

    David Green on Lowe’s:
“The NEW Lowe’s Motor Speedway is a NEW kind of monster. The new surface is a lot like the old. Some things don’t change, but the GRIP sure has! With the new Goodyear tire and the new grippy surface, it almost feels like they just used some good ol’ black paint to paint the track and freshen the look! Seriously, it’s smoother, but still has the same old personality. The entry and exits still feel the same. It’s definitely going to be a slip sliding kind of race, with the possibility of few to no tire changes.

“During our test there in early May, we weren’t totally happy with what we found during the two days and nights. We learned a lot about the tire and what we need to do for grip at the test, but we also saw things the tire and track didn’t like, so I’m anxious to get back there with our car in race trim. It’s my goal to run the most laps in practice and get all the info we can for race situations and qualifying. That’s our number one priority: run a lot of practice laps and get a lot of data. (Crew chief) Stewart (Cooper) and I have a game plan that he will study on our car and hopefully that will make us a very competitive Pull-Ups® Ford Fusion.

“We used to beg to be able to qualify at night here at Lowe’s, but now with this tire, I think we want sun, heat and daylight for our qualifying session. It should be interesting going out at 9 pm at night.

“Lowe’s is a track we all want to do well at, since it’s in our back yard so to speak. With the All-Star Race on our off-weekend, the track got rubbered-up a lot more and will be in better shape for us this week. Stewart and I were at the track all weekend on our off weekend to try to learn more about what it wants and needs. This race is like Daytona, Darlington, etc. - one of the most prestigious races we run and one we want to win!”
