Kentucky Speedway became the 43rd track at which the NASCAR Busch Series has
competed, the 20th Superspeedway. It is the second track in the Bluegrass State that has
held a NASCAR Busch Series race. The Louisville Speedway (.354 mile ) hosted two
races, 1988 won by Tommy Ellis and 1989 won by Tommy Houston. Kenny Wallace
won the pole for the 1989 race. One NASCAR Winston Cup (now NEXTEL Cup) race
was contested in Kentucky. On August 29, 1954, Lee Petty won the 200 lap race at the
one-half mile dirt Corbin Speedway in Corbin, Kentucky.

2006 Busch Series Points Race:
1st place Kevin Harvick finished third at Nashville. He was 13th at Dover, his worst
finish of 2006, and only his second finish outside the top 10 this season. Dover ended a
streak of consecutive top 10s at eight. He was seventh at Darlington and won his third
race of 2006 at Richmond, the 20th of his NBS career, matching Dale Earnhardt Jr. He
finished second at Talladega and won his second consecutive race of the 2006 season at
Phoenix. He has nine top fives and 13 top 10s. Average 2006 finish, 5.1 vs. 8.3 (10
races). Harvick won the inaugural Kentucky race, 2001, his only event at the track.
2nd place (-272) Carl Edwards won his second race of 2006 at Nashville (seventh career
victory). It was his eighth consecutive top 10 finish. He finished second at Nashville.
Edwards won his first race of 2006 at Lowe’s and gained two positions in the standings.
He finished eighth at Darlington, but lost a position in the standings (to race winner
Hamlin). He has one pole, two wins, eight top fives, and 12 top 10s in 2006. Average
2006 finish, 10.9 vs. 11.5 (14 races) in 2005. Edwards won from the pole at Kentucky
last season, his first event at the track. He has one win in three NASCAR Craftsman

3rd place (-393) Clint Bowyer finished second at Nashville, his second consecutive top
five. He was fourth at Dover. Bowyer finished 36th at Lowe’s and lost a position in the

4th place (-428) Denny Hamlin finished fourth at Nashville. He was seventh at Dover.
Hamlin finished 29th at Lowe’s and lost a position in the standings. He won his second
Busch Series race at Darlington and gained a position in the standings. Hamlin finished
10th at Richmond. He was 30th at Talladega and dropped a position in the standings for
the second consecutive week. He has two wins (Mexico and Darlington), two poles, five
top fives and 10 top 10s. Average 2006 finish, 13.7 vs. 15.7 in 2005. Hamlin started
fifth and finished 15th at Kentucky last season, his first race at the track.
5th place (-502) Greg Biffle finished seventh at Nashville and gained two positions in the
standings, moving into the top five. He finished eighth at Dover, 12th at Lowe’s and
fifth at Darlington. He has six top fives and 10 top 10s in his 13 starts. Average 2006
finish, 9.0 (13 races) vs. 10.7 (12 races) in 2005. In four Kentucky races, Biffle has three
second place finishes (2001, 2002, and 2004). He finished 30th (accident) at Kentucky in
2005. Biffle started second and won his only NCTS race at Kentucky, 2000.
