Notes:
Brewco Motorsports was started with one racecar and a small shop in 1996 in Central City, Kentucky by businessman Clarence Brewer Jr. This year Brewer begins his 11th season as a car owner in the NASCAR Busch Series. Brewco is one of the few successful NASCAR teams located outside of Charlotte, North Carolina.
More than 50 percent of Brewco Motorsports’ employees hail from either Kentucky or Tennessee. David Green, driver of the No. 27 Ford, calls Owensboro, Kentucky home. Additional Kentucky crew members include:
Sam Nelson, #27 gas man; Justin Owen, #27 catch can; Dave Rone,#27 transport driver; Jason Terry, #27 rear tire carrier; Dave Colognesi, #27 front tire carrier; Todd Wilkerson, team general manager; Clarence and Tammy Brewer, team owners.
Brewco is coming off its most solid performance in the NASCAR Busch Series, having placed two cars (No. 27 and No. 66) in the top-ten in points (eighth and tenth respectively) in 2005.
Last year in the race at Kentucky, the No. 27 Brewco car started and finished in 12th place.
In five starts at Kentucky, Green has one top-10 finish.
This week’s Associate Sponsor is Meijer. Founded in 1934, Meijer is a retail department store and grocery retailer credited with pioneering the modern "super center" concept which it opened in 1962. About half of Meijer’s more than 170 stores are located in Michigan and others are located across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
Looking Back:
To recognize the history of the NASCAR Busch Series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006, each week we’ll take a look back into David Green’s 16-year racing history, as it relates to this week’s track:
David Green’s stock car racing roots can be traced back to his home state of Kentucky. Green has been racing since his early teens, beginning with go-karts in the early 1970s. In 1980, he started running stock cars at Kentucky Motor Speedway near his hometown of Owensboro. In 1989 made his first NASCAR Busch Series start at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina. Two years later, in 1991, he captured his first Busch Series victory in Lanier, Georgia.
David Green on Kentucky:
“This is the most anticipated race of the year for my team and me. It’s our home state track and home state crowd, so there will be a lot of friends and family at the Speedway. We’ll also see a lot of my racing competitors – from go-karts through stock cars.
“The race at Kentucky Speedway is the biggest and best stand-alone event we run all year long, making this, without a doubt, one of THE races to win in the Busch Series.
“The reason this race is a sell-out each year is because the track is very racey, and it’s the friendliest for the fans, drivers, and crew members. With both ends of the track being a little different, it sure makes the chassis very important for good grip throughout the run. The track has some real character to it, with a few little bumps here and there, but more importantly it’s very driver friendly in all the right places.
“My team and I have run very respectably there over the last few years, but we have always had something pop up to bite us in our quest to reach Victory Lane. We are bringing our Charlotte car to the track this weekend, which was very strong a few weeks ago at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. We’ve made even more changes to the car to add grip and front down force that will come in very handy at Kentucky.
“Thanks to ‘ole DW for helping and working with Jerry Carroll and everyone up there to make the track’s design a very race friendly track. We are very excited about showing our potential this weekend. Last week we learned a lot on our qualifying package, and even though we didn't get the results in the race, (Crew Chief) Stewart (Cooper) and I learned a lot, and we have some new chassis ideas that will help our new tire grip the track even better.
“Getting out to help everyone at Meijer is also exciting for us this week as well. I'll be at the Florence Meijer Store Thursday evening to help promote our Kleenex Ford Fusion and the Meijer 300 Saturday night.”
