WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE FORD 300 NASCAR BUSCH SERIES RACE AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2006.
Paul Menard was the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race in the Ford 300. Menard led once for two laps to capture the award for the fifth time this season.
Menard UNOFFICIALLY captured the season long WIX Filters Lap Leader Award honors and cash prize of $20,000. Menard led 14 times in nine races this season for a total of 180 laps.
Menard finished third in tonight’s race, his seventh top-five and 16th top-10 finish. He UNOFFICIALLY finished sixth in the Busch Series championship standings.
MENARD QUOTES: “We unloaded yesterday and we were really happy with the car and just kind of got a bad draw for qualifying and qualified 14th. We went out early and that’s kind of all we had there. Pops and those guys just did a heck of a job all night. We were a little bit loose on the start of runs so the long runs were really good. After five, 10, 15 laps our car really came in and after 20 laps we were probably the best car on the track so those restarts at the end really hurt us. All in all, a good way to end the season for the Menards/Johns Manville Chevy.” YOU UNOFFICIALLY CAPTURED THE WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER AWARD FOR THE SEASON. “Yeah, that’s cool to win the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award. We’ve kind of been, I won’t say dominant Busch team all year because Leffler and Sauter and a lot of those guys have run pretty good but we’ve probably been the best Busch team week in and week out at each race. In order to do that you need to be surrounded by good people and obviously that’s what we’ve got here. We’re looking forward to moving up to Cup next year.”
