Clint Bowyer
Setup the Key to Success at Dover
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2006) – The ACDelco Real Car Guys and driver Clint Bowyer return to the “Monster Mile” this weekend as they compete in the Dover 200 at Dover International Speedway on Sept. 23. Bowyer has enjoyed significant success at the 1-mile oval, qualifying in the top five for three career starts and finishing in the top five in his last two appearances.
“Last year at Dover, we made a gamble at the end of the race and decided to stay out during the last round of pit stops while the leader came to pit road,” Bowyer said. “It looked like the right move and that we had something for them, but our car got a little tight at the end. We finished fourth and (Jeff) Burton won the race, so all in all it was a great day for RCR.”
Bowyer, who drove the No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet to his second pole of the year last month at California Speedway and ran as high as third two weeks ago at Richmond, is looking forward to a similarly strong weekend at the tricky Dover track.
“It’s a one groove racetrack, and it’s real hard to pass there,” Bowyer said. “Anytime you’re running that fast, it makes passing more difficult. If you end up having to race the track instead of the cars around you, then making a pass is very difficult. If your car has a good setup, then passing shouldn’t be a problem. We’ve run well at Dover in the past, so we’re hoping for another good result this weekend.”
