In eight Busch Series starts at Dover, Atwood has one win.
This week’s Associate Sponsor is Shoppers Food Warehouse, which offers large-scale one-stop shopping to customers in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia under the Shoppers Food Warehouse and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy banners. Its 60-plus warehouse-style discount food stores average about 55,000 sq. ft. and offer a variety of products and services, including produce, baked goods, meats and seafood, salad bars, cookware, and prepared foods, among other items. The chain is the largest in the Washington, DC metro area to target price-conscious consumers. The company was incorporated in 1949 as Jumbo Food Stores and was bought in 1998 by Richfood Holdings, which was in turn acquired by food wholesaler and retailer SUPERVALU in 1999.
Looking Back:
To recognize the history of the NASCAR Busch Series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006, each week we’ll take a look back into Casey Atwood’s Busch Series history, as it relates to this week’s track:
Atwood’s win at Dover came in a crash-filled race in September 1999, his first year with Brewco Motorsports. Toward the end of the race, Atwood had fresher tires than the cars in front and he was able to take the lead from Randy LaJoie on lap 192. The 200-lap race was slowed eight times by 50 laps of caution. Atwood held on to win the MBNA Gold 200 by three car-lengths for his second career NASCAR Busch Series victory.
Casey Atwood on Dover:
"I've always enjoyed going to Dover. It's one of the tracks I’ve won on, and I usually run well there. We know we can have a good run there in our Shop Towels® Ford Fusion, so I'm really looking forward to Saturday."
“Dover is a track that you can overdrive and not get into trouble. A lot of these tracks you can't over drive; you have to let off early and roll through the corners. Being high banked and concrete, you have a tendency to over drive it and be aggressive with it, but still go fast. That's the reason I like Dover - it's kind of like Bristol, except a lot faster."
