ANDRETTI DEEMED “ROOKIE” IN NASCAR BUSCH SERIES
John Andretti was approved by NASCAR last week in Daytona to run for Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year honors in the 2006 season. Andretti couldn’t be more excited to run for the title again. He used to lead the cup rookie meetings, and now he’s one of seven attending the Busch rookie meetings.
Andretti qualified 5th for last week’s race in Daytona, making the #10 the fastest qualifying Ford. He and the team are looking for a repeat performance in Fontana.
In eight Nextel Cup starts at California Speedway, Andretti led six laps and completed 99.3% of all the laps possible.
Andretti’s average start in Fontana is 19.2 and his average finish is 22.6.

Saturday’s Stater Bros. 300 will be Andretti’s first start at California Speedway in the Busch Series, but he has eight Nextel Cup starts on the Fontana 2-mile already under his belt.

“California is a horsepower track. Ford’s were pretty dominating in Daytona, and if the same holds true, the Fusion will also be dominate in California. We built a brand new car for this race, its never even been on the track and we’re anxious to see what it can do. We tested in Las Vegas earlier this month and what we learned there can be applied to California with both being down-force flat tracks. We still have to qualify on time, and that is always something to be a little nervous about, but with John Andretti behind the wheel of the new Ford Fusion, it really isn’t much of a concern.”
