Stater Bros. 300 - Clint Bowyer Notes

CLINT BOWYER
Real Car Guys Ready for the West Coast

Huntersville, NC. (Feb. 22, 2006) – Coming off a third place finish last weekend at Daytona International Speedway, driver Clint Bowyer and the ACDelco race team are ready to up the ante. The Real Car Guys hope to celebrate in Victory Lane this weekend at California Speedway after running in the Stater Bros 300 NASCAR Busch Series event.

After two top-five finishes last season at California Speedway, Bowyer is ready for the win. “I love racing at California. Our team always seems to have a lot of fun and finishes well there, and at the end of the day that’s what really matters.” said an excited Bowyer.

In addition to Bowyer’s excitement of returning to California, one team member is anticipating it even more because this is his chance to go home. Fabricator Travis Bryans was born and raised in San Diego, Calif., about one hour south of Los Angeles. At the age of 10, Bryans’ family moved to North Carolina. After living in North Carolina for eight years, Bryans returned to his hometown and attended college for a year and a half. Bryans then came back to the Tarheel State to work towards finishing his engineering degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He currently attends school on a part-time basis while working part-time at Richard Childress Racing and flying in on race day for pit support on the ACDelco race team.

“I like going home to see my family.” Bryans said, “I am really close to my uncles and all three of them get to come to both races and spend some time with me while I work. I usually try to either go in early or stay late at least one weekend so I can spend as much time with them as possible.”

The ACDelco team is ready for the flashing bulbs of cameras in the land of superstars. What better place to witness it than from Victory Lane in sunny California on Saturday.

Points of Interest…

  • What Ya’ Haulin’…The Real Car Guys will unload chassis No. 050 this weekend. This is the first chassis built with the 2006 body-style for the Richard Childress Busch Series race teams. Bowyer tested this chassis in Homestead and Las Vegas with great results.
  • Track Stat…Bowyer has raced two times at California Speedway in the No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. He has one pole position and two top-five finishes at the 2.0-mile D-shaped oval.
  • Start Time…Saturday’s Stater Bros. 300 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST. TV coverage of the 150-lap event on FX begins at 6:00 p.m. EST, with live radio coverage beginning at 6:00 p.m. EST on your local MRN Radio affiliate and XM Satellite Radio – channel 144. Remember times and dates of the race may change so check your local listings.
  • Last Race at California Speedway… What an outstanding weekend all around for Clint Bowyer and his No. 2 ACDelco racing team at California Speedway. The Emporia, Kan., native led the first 12 laps of the Ameriquest 300 after starting from the pole, and then brought his red, white, and blue racing machine home third – 12 spots ahead of points leader Martin Truex, Jr. Team ACDelco’s ninth top-five of the 2005 NASCAR Busch Series season enabled Bowyer to pick up 52 points on Truex.

No. 2 ACDelco driver Clint Bowyer on California Speedway…
After your third place performance in Daytona, how do you feel about working with your ACDelco race team this season?
“The ACDelco Chevrolet was really fast in Daytona. I was proud of my new crew chief, Dan Deeringhoff. He did a good job calling the race. Third place is great, but we’re after wins this year. We'll go after them in California.”

What do you think about your busy schedule in California on Saturday juggling Busch Series qualifying with both Busch Series and Cup Series practices?
“I think that by having so much going on, I’ll be really focused on racing. I won’t have time to sit down and reflect on one particular thing, so I’ll just have to get in the car and do what I do best and drive.”

Tell me what you thought to yourself as you captured your first pole at California Speedway in 2005.
“That was a great lap for the ACDelco Chevy; I’ve got to thank my Real Car Guys for getting it just right so I could make that kind of run.”
