AJ Foyt IV Looking for his Previous IRL Experience to Give Him an Added Advantage at California

  • AJ Foyt IV’s last appearance at California Speedway was October 16, 2005 when he made his final IRL IndyCar start for his grandfather’s team, Foyt Racing. He was involved in a hard crash early in the event posting a 21st place finish.
  • AJ Foyt IV has three career IRL starts at California Speedway and will look to his previous experiences at the track to give him an added advantage in this weekend’s NASCAR Busch Series Stater Brothers 300. His best finish was a 17th place in 2003.
  • Ken “Red” Davis will serve as the interim crew chief for the No. 38 Great Clips Dodge this weekend in California. Davis has been with the No. 38 team since 1998.
  • Did you know? There are 191 Great Clips franchises in the state of California

    FOYT IV ON CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY:
“I like the big, fast tracks like California Speedway. I have raced there a couple of times in the Indy cars but being in a stock car there will be a lot different. Hopefully after getting in some practice laps I’ll be able to adjust pretty quickly. I think that knowing the track and its characteristics will give me a little bit of an advantage over some of the other rookies. I’m expecting a lot of side by side racing which will be a lot of fun, especially after the pressure of the restrictor-plate racing at Daytona where so much of what happens is out of your control. It feels like the season really gets started this weekend at California and will serve as a truer indication of the kind of season everyone is going to have.”

EQUIPMENT: The No. 38 Great Clips team will compete with chassis #36 this weekend in California. This is the same car that Kasey Kahne drove to victory lane in the spring event Texas last season. AJ Foyt IV drove #36 in the 2005 season finale at Homestead, posting a career-best NASCAR Busch Series finish of 22nd.
