Andretti 25th

TRACY HINES, No. 12 SUPERCUTS DODGE: WHAT HAPPENED? “We were hanging on in the Supercuts Dodge, trying to make what adjustments we could. Apparently, the 36 either he has no mirrors or he has no spotter because he just decided to turn left at the exit of turn 2 and ran right into me and spun me out. I don’t know what he was thinking but he definitely didn’t give me my car width, that’s for sure. I hit pretty hard but I’m okay. It probably destroyed the car. That’s all we need, to be running not very good and have a junk racecar on top of it.”

TODD KLUEVER IN THE No. 06 POST-IT/3M FORD WAS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT CHICAGOLAND.

Note:

  • Kluever finished 18th and took top rookie honors for the fifth time this season.
  • John Andretti (25th) is UNOFFICIALLY 12th in the Busch Series championship standings, best of any Raybestos Rookie.

KLUEVER: “I tell you what, Mike Kelly [crew chief] and all my crew, they were awesome all weekend, man. It’s the same car that we ran at Charlotte and ran really well there. It ran really good here, too. We didn’t qualify well. For some reason we can’t make this car qualify very well. It didn’t qualify very well at Charlotte, either but it runs good. It was our driver’s fault today why we finished badly. We drove up to the top-10 and Mike asked me if I wanted to stay out, if I thought we were good enough to stay out there with like 48 to go, and I said yeah. We were just too tight so then we knew the next caution we had to come in and put tires on it and I had them free it up just a little bit. I should have had them just put tires on it. We were just too free and gave everything away in the first part of that run and then we were pretty fast at the end of it again. We just run out of time. That’s my inexperience that bit us today and I take full credit for that. Mike and his guys did an awesome job with this thing.” WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY THAT WILL HELP YOU TOMORROW? “A bunch. I’m really excited about tomorrow. My Busch car was really good on the top in 1 and 2 and really good on the bottom in 3 and 4 and that’s kind of where I was running my Cup car in practice, too. I think the top in 1 and 2 is kind of gone actually. We made some adjustments on this and kind of got to run really good on the bottom in 1 and 2 so I think that’s where we’re going to need to go with our Cup car because the top is pretty much wore out.”

JOHN ANDRETTI, No. 10 RVs.COM/FREEDOM ROADS /GANDER MOUNTAIN FORD: “It’s not as bad as it looks on the results. We had two drive through penalties. I guess those things happen every now and then. We made that mistake on pit road and that kept us from getting the Lucky Dog. We get the Lucky Dog we raced with the guys not in the top-10 but the guys immediately outside the top-10 and felt like that’s about where we would have finished instead of where we did. But two laps is a lot. One of them we earned the other came as a mistake.”

BURNEY LAMAR, No. 77 DOLLAR GENERAL CHEVROLET: WHEN YOU SPUN, HOW LUCKY WERE YOU TO NOT HIT ANYTHING? “Extremely [smiles]. We were very fortunate. That’s car 18 and I like that car a lot. I was very fortunate not to hit anything and to come home 22nd after that, we’re not real thrilled but we’re happy. At least we have a racecar and we didn’t finish last.” HOW MUCH DID YOU LEARN TODAY THAT WILL HELP YOU LATER ON THIS SEASON? “I learn every time I’m out there. The more track time that I get the better off I am. It was a lot of fun.”

DANNY O’QUINN JR., PENNZOIL FORD: YOUR TEAM DID A LOT OF WORK ON THE CAR THIS MORNING BEFORE THE RACE STARTED. “We hit the wall there in practice yesterday and tore it all to pieces. It looked like everything was good to go there for the race. We just couldn’t ever get it to handle right there in the race. It never would turn. I don’t know if something is bent or what. It’s just a long day. I hate it for Pennzoil and the guys. They worked really hard after I messed up there yesterday and got in the fence. I just hate it for them. We’ll just have to go back and see what we can find wrong. It was definitely one of those races where you’re just trying to ride it out and get every position you can, just try to stay up there in the points. Definitely not a good day for us.”

DAVID GILLILAND, No. 84 HYPE MANUFACTURING/RANCHWOOD HOMES CHEVROLET: “We just kind of missed it a little bit. We had a good qualifying run but in race trim we were just too tight at the beginning. We kept adjusting on it and just never really got to where it was good enough to run with those guys. I made a mistake speeding on pit road getting in. That yellow line is pretty close to the racetrack. I just made a mistake there getting in and that cost us a lap. All in all, we finished, brought it home in one piece and I got about 300 laps under my belt at Chicago. For sure we’ll be better when we come back next time.” DID THE TRACK CHANGE A BUNCH FROM YESTERDAY TO TODAY? “No, I don’t think so. Yesterday we fought tight a little bit also but we just didn’t have enough time to quite get it perfect, I think.”
