Food City 250 - Ron Hornaday Notes

RON HORNADAY
OUTDOOR CHANNEL CHEVROLET
BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY PREVIEW

HORNADAY PULLING DOUBLE-DUTY: Ron Hornaday will pull double-duty for the fourth time this season. Hornaday will compete in the Truck Series event on Wednesday night and the Busch Series event on Friday night at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (BMS). Hornaday’s most recent double-duty weekend was three weeks ago at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis (Ind.).

HORNADAY LOOKS TO BUILD MOMENTUM: Ron Hornaday will look to regain the momentum he had during the early part of the summer in the No. 33 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet. Hornaday finished seventh in the first race of the season at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and is coming off a second row starting position at O’Reilly (Ind.) Raceway Park (ORP). Hornaday has made nine starts in the No. 33 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet this season. His season best finish of fifth came at Dover, Del., in June. Ron will also welcome a new primary sponsor on his No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado Truck Series entry this weekend. Allstates Employer Services will serve as primary sponsor of the No. 33 Silverado for the remainder of 2006 and the entire 2007 Truck Series season.

FLASHBACK TO THE PAST: Ron Hornaday has found success at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (BMS). Hornaday has two wins from the pole at the famed half-mile. Both wins came in the NASCAR Truck Series in 1997 and 1998. Hornaday, who like his owner Kevin Harvick, grew up racing on a high-banked half-mile, Mesa Marin Raceway, and likes the style of racing that BMS provides. Hornaday has 18 career starts at BMS, scattered across all three of the premier divisions. He has six Truck Series starts, 10 Busch Series starts and two Cup Series starts.

WALLY ROGERS TAKES ON DOUBLE-DUTY: KHI crew chief Wally Rogers will take on double-duty this weekend at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (BMS). Rogers, who served as Hornaday’s crew chief in the Truck Series in 2005, has been leading the charge for the Truck team when possible this season. Bristol’s schedule will allow Rogers to crew chief Hornaday’s truck on Wednesday night, and then focus his efforts to the No. 33 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet on Friday. Much as drivers like the extra seat time from pulling double-duty, Rogers will gain more information and from Hornaday to apply for Friday night’s event.

DID YOU KNOW?: KHI owner and driver Kevin Harvick has five wins at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (BMS). Harvick has four wins in the NASCAR Busch Series and one win in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. Harvick nearly picked up a win in the NASCAR Truck Series driving a KHI Chevrolet Silverado in 2004. Harvick led 124 of 200 laps that night, before experiencing a tire failure leading the race on the last lap, and finished 10th.

KHI QUOTEBOOK

Driver: Ron Hornaday
WILL DOUBLE–DUTY THIS WEEKEND GIVE YOU AN ADVANTAGE? “It’s always good to get as much seat time as you can at each track we go to. The truck drives a little different than the Busch car, so there won’t be a lot of direct translation in the setups, but it will be nice to have all those extra laps there.”

DO YOU GET ANY TIPS FROM YOUR CAR OWNER FOR BRISTOL? “Kevin has been really good at Bristol (Tenn.). He and I both have raced a lot of laps at Bristol (Tenn.) and before that at Mesa Marin Raceway out in Bakersfield (Calif.) So I like the high-bank half-miles and I know Kevin does as well. We’ll just do our best to make sure the Outdoor Channel Chevrolet finishes ahead of the boss this weekend.”

Crew Chief: Wally Rogers
WILL WORKING WITH HORNADAY ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT HELP YOU ON FRIDAY NIGHT? “I think Wednesday night’s Truck race will be a big help in Friday night’s Busch race. It’ll give Hornaday and I some extra time to work on the set-up and figure out what the track will do throughout the night. Hornaday is really good there, so that’ll be an advantage as well.”

HAS KEVIN (HARVICK) OFFERED ANY ADVICE ON BRISTOL? “Kevin’s record speaks for itself at Bristol (Tenn.) Hornaday will do a great job there, as he did in the spring. I’m sure Kevin will check in on us to see how we’re doing during practice. We should unload fast and hopefully be on track for a good finish at the end of the night.”
