  • This is the final 2006 race that Ravenswood Winery will serve as the primary sponsor on Brewco’s No. 27 Busch Series entry. Ravenswood also sponsored the car at the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway on April 21, 2006 and at the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International on August 12. This is Ravenswood Winery’s first NASCAR team sponsorship.
  • Green and the Brewco team have scored two top-15 finishes in the Ravenswood Ford this season: ninth at Phoenix and 15th at Watkins Glen.
  • In addition to sponsoring the No. 27 car, Ravenswood will also serve as an associate sponsor on Brewco’s No. 66 Busch Series car in the remaining 2006 races.
  • Brewco Motorsports begins its 11th year competing in the NASCAR Busch Series. Brewco is coming off its most solid performance in the series, having placed two cars (No. 27 and No. 66) in the top-ten in points (eighth and tenth respectively) in 2005.
  • In 24 starts at Bristol, Green has 12 top-10 finishes and six top-five finishes.
  • Green will participate in the Food City Family Race Night autograph session from 6 to 8 pm on State Street in downtown Bristol.
  • This week’s Associate Sponsor is Ingles Markets, Inc., a leading supermarket chain headquartered in Asheville, North Carolina, which operates 197 supermarkets in six southeastern states. In conjunction with its supermarket operations, Ingles also operates 74 neighborhood shopping centers, all but 17 of which contain an Ingles supermarket.

    Looking Back:
To recognize the history of the NASCAR Busch Series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2006, each week we’ll take a look back into David Green’s 16-year racing history, as it relates to this week’s track:

“No question, one of my most memorable Bristol races was my 1994 victory there when Mark Martin and I had a very odd finish,” said Green.

On April 9, 1994, at what was then called Bristol International Raceway, Martin was leading the Busch Series race when yellow flags came out and it was obvious that the race would end under caution. Martin, thinking he had won, pulled off the track from Turn 4 and headed to Victory Lane. However, there was still one lap to go, and a pleasantly surprised Green took that final lap around the track and made his own trip to Victory Lane. Martin was scored as the 11th place finisher in the official results of the race and Green went on to win the Bush Series Championship that year.

“At Bristol, it’s not over until it’s over,” said Green.

    David Green on Bristol:
“Bristol is the ultimate short track of all time. It’s also the ultimate challenge for the car, the crew and the driver. You better bring your A-game or you'll be gobbled up and spit out in a second.

“Bristol is typical short track racing, but it’s on fast forward all night long with no time-outs. There’s several wrecks a lap, but they never get finished off in order to bring out a caution, and that’s what makes Bristol the toughest race and toughest track – but yet the most fun!

”The race at Bristol demands the ultimate in handling and it’s critical that the car stick to the bottom like glue. Pitting at the right time to get the track position for the end is essential too. It’s so much easier to have the competition try to pass you, versus being behind them, trying to make a pass.

”After a slow start in practice and early in the race in the spring, (Co-Crew Chief) Stewart (Cooper) and I learned a lot about the tire and what it was telling us, so by the end of the race we were very, very competitive. Given that, we are really excited and anxious to get to Bristol Friday. We’ll work hard to find the grip that is required to stay on the bottom all night long. With grip, you can get it done at Bristol.

“Having had some poles there in the past, and a win there, I can't wait to get our season back on track Friday. We set the track qualifying record at Bristol back in 2003 and we can do it again in our Ravenswood Ford Fusion this weekend.

”It’s our third race in 2006 with Ravenswood Winery as our primary sponsor and we’ve had two really good races in our Ravenswood colors this season. I plan on getting them a top-five with a shot at the win Friday night.”

    David Green at Bristol:

  • Number of starts: 24
  • DNFs: 3
  • Average starting position: 14.4
  • Average finishing position: 13.4
  • 5575 of 6064 laps completed (91.9%), 35 laps led
  • Highest finish: First (1994)
