QUOTES

Driver Denny Hamlin on Bristol Motor Speedway…
“We have had an exciting start to the season, but now we get to have some fun. I grew up on short tracks, as did most of the other drivers, so short tracks have a special place in our heart. And there is not another short track in the country like Bristol. The banking adds to the excitement but so do all the fans that pack into that place to see a race. It is a great track.

Both races last year I felt like I learned something new about Bristol. At the first race, the goal was just try not to get a scratch on the car. But the second race, we were able to run up front and lead laps. This race I think we are finally ready to qualify up front, spend the whole day there and be around to compete for the win at the end.”

Crew Chief Dave Rogers on the World’s Fastest Half Mile…
“Bristol is one of those places that make a Crew Chief and Fabricator just cringe. The racing is so tight and aggressive that a lot of time you are involved in accidents that are not of your making. Fortunately, aerodynamics is not critical to success at this track, but you must take care of your fenders. Track position will also be real important. This will put a lot of pressure on the guys on pit road to make good stops and keep us up front. Denny is an extremely talented short track driver, so I am pretty confident going into this.”

NOTES

  • Bristol History …Hamlin has enjoyed Bristol Motor Speedway from the first time he visited the place last year. In the rain delayed March race, Hamlin rambled from his 10 th place starting position up into the top five for most of the race. A last lap bump from Carl Edwards forced the #20 car out of shape and denied him his first top-five finish. During the fall race, Hamlin again returned to the front of the pack where he led 38 laps. Forced to make a late race pit stop, Hamlin recovered by driving back up through the pack to finish in the 13 th position.

  • Triad Packaging … On the decklid this weekend is associate sponsor Triad Packaging. Triad Packaging is a long time associate on the #20 car entering it’s fourth year in NASCAR Busch Series Racing. Triad Packaging, headquartered in Bristol, TN, provides its customers unique and cost effective packaging solutions.

  • Car History Car History … This week the #20 team is bringing car #2049. This car has been rebuilt since last year with a new clip and new 2006 Monte Carlo SS body and is one of the more popular cars in the shop. This car has been to Victory Lane at Charlotte (Fall – 2004) and won the pole position the following week at Atlanta. This car has most recently run at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where it qualified 2 nd and finished 6th.
