Nicorette 300 - Ryan Newman Notes

Ryan Newman/Atlanta BUSCH Series Advance

Notes:

  • Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 39 Mobil 1 Dodge, will make his second Atlanta Motor Speedway start and the 26th of his NASCAR Busch Series career this Saturday.
  • Newman's only prior AMS Busch start occurred in March 2001, when he started on the pole, but finished 32nd following an accident.
  • Newman finished second in the Stater Bros. 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at California Speedway last month.
  • In 25 NBS races, Newman has posted seven victories, 10 poles, 11 top-five and 16 top-10 finishes.
  • New crew chief, Matt Gimbel, will take over the reigns of the No. 39 Mobil 1 Dodge this weekend. Gimbel was previously the engineer for the No. 42 NASCAR Cup Series entry owned by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sebates.
  • Several crew changes have been made to the No. 39 Penske Racing South team. All crew members are listed below.
  • Gimbel will take chassis PRS-3 for Saturday's Nicorette 300 at AMS. PRS-3 won at Michigan International Speedway, Dover International Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2005.

    Quotes:
Ryan Newman on NASCAR Busch Series Racing in Atlanta: "It's been a long time since I've been behind the wheel of a Busch car at Atlanta. Atlanta is one of my favorite places to race, just because it's so fast. Plus, it’s a really wide track that provides plenty of room for a lot of passing. I'm hoping not to need all of that if we can get the pole again on Saturday. If we start up front, the plan, of course, is to stay there.

"Last year we won six races, so we set the standard pretty high for the team. This weekend would be a great time to start that trend again." Quick Stats:
    NBS Career Starts: 25
    NBS Career Atlanta Starts: 1
    NBS Victories: 7
    NBS Poles: 10

    Appearances (3/15-3-19):

  • Go-Karting with Boys and Girls Club of Tampa, Florida. Celebration Station (10230 Palm River Road in Tampa) at 4 p.m., ET. Newman will be available for interviews following the event.
