Brewco Motorsports begins its 11th year competing in the NASCAR Busch Series. Brewco is coming off its most solid performance in the series, having placed two cars (No. 27 and No. 66) in the top-ten in points (eighth and tenth respectively) in 2005.
This season Kimberly-Clark begins its 13th year as a sponsor in the NASCAR Busch Series, making it the longest continual team “primary” sponsor in the Series.
Last year at Atlanta Motor Speedway the No. 27 Brewco car started 20th and finished 33rd after being involved in an accident on lap 181 of 203.
In 11 starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Green has posted three top-ten and one top-five finish. He was the runner-up at this race in 1996.
Kimberly-Clark’s Cottonelle® brand will be featured on the No. 27 Brewco car this weekend.
This week’s Associate Sponsor is The Kroger Co. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kroger is one of the nation’s largest retail grocery chains. At the end of fiscal 2005, Kroger operated (either directly or through its subsidiaries) 2,507 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 31 states under two dozen local banners. Kroger also operated (either directly or through subsidiaries, franchise agreements, or operating agreements) 791 convenience stores, 428 fine jewelry stores, 579 supermarket fuel centers and 42 food processing plants.
Looking Back:
To recognize the history of the NASCAR Busch Series – as it celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2006 – each week we’ll take a look back into David Green’s 16-year racing history, as it relates to this week’s track:
Green is tied for fourth all-time among the Bush Series Performance Leaders in number of races run at Atlanta Motor Speedway with 11. He posted his highest finish at the track in 1996, when he lead 11 laps of the race and finished in second place.
David Green on Atlanta:
“Atlanta Motor Speedway is the fastest, most ‘raciest’ of the one-and-a-half-mile tracks we run on. There are three to four grooves through turns three and four, which makes it so much fun to race on. The big dip in turn one makes this a very challenging track as well. Qualifying at Atlanta is a white knuckle experience for two laps. You basically have to run wide-open or darn close to it to have a shot at the front row. It’s a must to have a good handling car, tons of power and great downforce.
“Racing at Atlanta has always been very competitive, with a lot of the Nextel Cup drivers entered in the race, but it’s time we change that and put our Kleenex Ford in victory lane. Our team is taking a new car to the race and I have high hopes and expectations for a very competitive weekend in ‘Hotlanta.’
“We have had terrible luck through the first several races of 2006 and it is my number one priority to turn that luck around and fight for a win in Atlanta.”
