ALTON, VA (October 24, 2006)—RWI Racing driver Steve Wallace, the youngest son of NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace, completed his first stock car road course test Tuesday and passed with flying colors. Under the tutelage of road racing ace, Boris Said, the younger Wallace and team spent the day at Virginia International Raceway in preparation for his NASCAR road course debut, scheduled to take place at the 2007 Mexico City Busch Series event.

Driving a No. 64 Dodge specially-modified to accommodate two people, Wallace toured the rural Virginia circuit in a time of 1:31:67. His time was merely two one-hundredths of a second slower than Said’s best lap of 1:31:65.

“I had a lot of fun and really learned a lot today. A few months ago, I went out to the Bondurant School in Phoenix and Mike McGovern, the head instructor out there, taught me a lot about how to attack a road course in general. Some of the techniques you use in one of their cars though, are a lot different than those used in one of our race cars,” noted Steve Wallace, “Boris took what I learned in Phoenix and took it to a different level. I really learned a lot today about what it takes to go fast on a road course in a stock car. Boris is one of the best road racers in the world and I’m grateful that he took the time to help us out today.”

Said RWI Racing team owner, Rusty Wallace, “I guess I’m a little biased, but Steve continues to amaze me with how fast he is and how well he adjusts to new situations. I guess it’s no different than how he almost won his first restrictor plate race a few weeks ago at Talladega. To go out there today and run as quickly as he did in his first-ever time on a road course in a stock car was really impressive. We’re going to take him to Road Atlanta next and try to get him some experience on different tracks. I’m sure we’ll be back to Virginia International again before the Mexico City race. I’d just really like to thank Boris for all of his help today. He’s not only a great driver, but one heck of a nice guy. It’s really cool of him to help the young drivers like he does.”
