O'Reilly 300 - Ford Post-Race Quotes

JON WOOD-47-Clorox/Wisk Ford Taurus (Finished 8th) - "What's funny is that we didn't take a top-10 car today and finish in the top 10. We didn't have a top-10 car and we did, and I'm just sitting here and looking back on what I could have done differently at all of these other races because I obviously had a top-five car. That's the only thing I'm frustrated about. The good thing about it is that we came back from 20th with 40 to go and finished eighth." HAVE THE MILE-AND-A-HALF TRACKS BECOME THIS TEAM'S STRONG SUIT? "These mile-and-a-half tracks are where we're going to accelerate a lot. We've got good stuff for these places. Evidently we have good short track stuff too, because Jay (Guy) was very successful last year and I think I did my fair share of good short-track racing, so I think if you put us together anywhere it's going to be a winning combination."

DAVID GREEN-27-Scott Extra Soft/Brookshire's Ford Taurus (Finished 11th) - "The race track was so different from Thursday when we ran. It reminded me a lot of Rockingham, which is a lot of fun. We had to really work on our car there to get the balance back where it needed to be, but once we got it back to where it needed to be it was pretty good. Stewart (Cooper) made a good call on pit strategy to get us good track position and we gave up a few laps on our tires to stay up there. We'll get it here pretty soon, but it's been a long, hard struggle, but I'm proud of my Ford and all of my guys on what they're doing on the team." ARE THERE TWO DISTINCT RACING GROOVES NOW? "Yes. This is exactly what the track needed - a hot sunny day and the tires to wear to out and slide around. It was perfect."

KENNY WALLACE-22-Stacker 2 Ford Taurus (Finished 9th) - "We are just a little bit off of making our front ends turns. Once we nail that I think we can produce closer finishes. We've got ourselves a good team, we're just working on making the front end turn better." HOW DIFFERENT WAS THE RACING SURFACE THIS YEAR COMPARED TO PAST RACES HERE? "It was a lot slower, so what happens is that you get the car ready for high speed and you go fast in qualifying and you go fast in practice, and this track is very temperamental when somebody is in front of you. You could hardly use any gas. It becomes a short track in the race even though it's a big track. You don't use much throttle. In practice and qualifying you go wide open and it's crazy, but in the race you just can't drive it that hard. So, when you lose the font end you hit the wall."

JASON KELLER-35-McDonald's Ford Taurus (Finished 13th) - "We battled hard all day long, but that's kind of the way this race team is. We just stay in there hard, and halfway through the race, right there in the middle part of the race, I thought we were about as good as anybody. We're getting better, though. This is a race track similar to Atlanta, and we were better today than we were there, so we just have to keep building." ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT A LOT OF THE BUSCH RACES THIS YEAR HAVE BEEN WON WITH TIRE STRATEGY? "No. You've got to be smart about it and know what you have to use. The ones that are successful are the ones that are doing that. We just have to keep doing what we're doing."

MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR.-10-ppc Racing Ford Taurus (Finished 21st) - "The car was pretty good on new tires, but on the start we went from the front to the back. That was tough to overcome, and on old tires we were no good." AS A NEW DRIVER TO THIS SERIES, DOES THIS SCHEDULE HINDER YOU TO LEARN THE CARS AND THE RACE TRACKS? "I think it's good. We don't have happy Hour practice because we race the setup that we qualify with. I think that's good for me. I think it would be more difficult to work with two different kinds of setups. I like driving every weekend, and I think that's going to help me the most."

CARL EDWARDS-60-Charter Communications Ford Taurus (Finished 4th) - "That was unbelievable. We fought back. We had one bad green-flag run there with the Charter Ford, and then the rest of the day we moved forward. I just can't say enough about the race track. Texas Motor Speedway is a lot of fun, and running the high groove in three and four was the highlight of my day. We got in a hole there. We got a little bit of body damage and I think that hurt us all day. It was right under the Charter logo on the right rear. There was a little bit of damage and I think that hurt our side force all day, so we were just free the whole time. We finally got it dialed and it was pretty awesome there at the end, but still a little bit too free. I feel pretty good about a fourth place. I thought we were going to be about 10th." ARE YOU STARTING TO POINTS RACE NOW? "I know for me personally, I can flip my switch off sometimes, where before I was like, 'I'm going to win or crash.' Now at least I can look at it realistically and say, 'Here we are in fourth position and Reed is one spot in front of us and this is as fast as I can go.' Sometimes I think it's good to have that kind of outlook, and right now is that time."

GREG BIFFLE-66-Duraflame Ford Taurus (Finished 2nd) - IT SEEMED LIKE YOU JUST RAN OUT OF TIME. "Yeah, really I did. The guys did a great job. This was a really good race car here. Newt and all of the guys did a good job on the Duraflame car, but we just ran out of time. One more lap and we would have been able to get up there and race with Kasey. Congratulations to Kasey; it was a big win for him. We were happy to come home second. We had a good run today and I think we have our program right where we need it. Our teammate ran great, so we're pretty excited."

ELLIOTT SADLER-90-CitiFinancial Ford Taurus (Finished 5th) - YOU MADE YOUR MOVE INTO THE TOP FIVE IN THE CLOSING LAPS. "It only counts at the end and we had a top-15, top-12 car most of the day on long runs, and the guys made great adjustments there at the end and got my CitiFinancial Ford good on the short run. Then with green-white-checkered, I just kind of got to the high side and had my momentum built up, and with these Busch cars you can do that, and had a great race with Matt Kenseth and Clint Bowyer. I'm proud of my guys. They had the car the best it was at the end. I would have liked to have won, but a top-five is a great, great finish for this Busch team." NO DRIVER HAS EVER REPEATED CUP WINS HERE. "I know that. I definitely want to be the first two-time winner and hopefully that will happen tomorrow. I think my Cup car is really, really good and we learned some things today on air pressure, which is why we're running the Busch races and I think we're going to have a good showing tomorrow. We'll see what happens."

GREG BIFFLE PRESS CONFERENCE
HOW MANY MORE LAPS DID YOU NEED TO BATTLE KASEY FOR THE LEAD? "I think more one lap and I would have been able to pass him. I was coming on him pretty good down the backstretch there and got into three and four and was catching him a little bit coming to the stripe. The guys just did a fantastic job on the Duraflame car. I'm having a lot of fun over there at Brewco Motorsports. Those guys are a dedicated bunch of guys and it's fun to drive for a race team that works as hard as they do. Newt Moore as a crew chief, I think we did all of the right things today. We just lost a little track position, and I let Kasey on the outside of me down in three and four and he passed us three-wide on that restart. That's probably the pass that maybe cost us the win, if he wouldn't have got by us there. Overall, it was a great day. We finish second, our best finish in the 66 car, so I really can't complain. I wish I had a few more laps, but I just got held up a little bit by some guys with older tires. It was kind of tough to pass and it took me a few laps to get by them, and I did get by them and it came out of fourth gear down there in the middle of the corner, and that was quite surprising. I went to the gas and it went against the rev chip, so I grabbed the shifter and put it back in gear and the guy I was passing got back in front of me again so I had to start over. But overall, it was a pretty good day."

"I think there were a lot of close calls for me. I got tight coming up off the corner like he (Reed) did a few times and it's really close. I got sideways a little bit in there with lapped cars. You always have a few that are close calls, but you try to minimize the risk out there with as many as you can. It was pretty tight when Kasey was on the outside of me and we were coming off of turn two three-wide. That was definitely interesting. I was quite surprised to see him out there. The guy did a good job, whoever I was passing on the bottom, the lapped car gave us room. His spotter was on top of things. Normally you don't plan for that, and he gave us enough room to come off there three-wide and didn't move up into me, so I could give Kasey room. Overall, it was a good day for us. We qualified eighth, and the car ran really good today and the engine ran good. It was probably just a freak thing that the transmission came out of gear. I doubt if there was anything wrong with it. Maybe I didn't have it all the way in gear; I don't know. Heck, all I could ask for is a couple more laps, 203 laps instead of 200."

"I had and didn't have the best car at times. Kasey came up and passed us, and I passed him back and got a little bit of a lead. The 32 car was faster than everybody there for a stint. It was just kind of switching hands. Newt, I just told him I was a little bit tight and we came down a half of a pound of air in the right front and took a round of wedge out of it, and the thing was money. It was just a tick loose, but I like to drive the car loose. I just lost all of my track position shuffling around there trying to get going. But, you can't complain. I had a lot of fun today. Hopefully I have as much fun tomorrow as I had today. I'm driving a backup car tomorrow so I don't know how that's going to be, but that's the car that I won California with, so I think it will be all right."

"You never know and all of the cars act different with the fuel cells and whatnot. The fuel pressure was about 10 pounds and then the fuel pressure started flagging; the needle was bouncing around. It sounded like it changed tone, but that's probably in your head when you think it's running out of gas. The fuel pressure came down to six pounds and it never moves more than a half of a pound. I knew it was starting to get air in the thing. We were going to go one more lap than I was already going to, and I said it's out. Coming down the frontstretch I said it's out of gas meaning we weren't completely out, but it was getting close and we needed to stop. And, Kasey was stopping that lap anyway, so it really worked out for us. It was probably a close call. It probably wouldn't have made another lap and it probably would have run out on the track."

"It's unbelievable. This race track has definitely turned the corner. I had more fun today than I've had driving a race car all season so far. It was just fun to race out there with these guys and my car was really good, which makes it fun. California, I won that race, and that was probably the most stressful thing I ever did, but today I had a lot of fun. I don't know if the Cup cars are going to race side-by-side like that tomorrow because of the spoiler on them. That's something we're going to have to wait and see. I really don't have a prediction quite yet on how that's going to run. It may be fine. We may be OK. What I found so far this year is that the little bit shorter spoiler has been tougher to run the top for some reason. I don't why. At Atlanta and other places it's been more difficult, and like California, I couldn't run up the race track at all where I could the year before. I don't know if it's the spoiler or if it's our bodies. Other people might be able to, we'll have to wait till tomorrow and I'll tiptoe up there in the Cup car and see what it's going to be like."
